Just thought I would send you
a photo of my Deans "Whaleback" ASRL model for your website.
A few years old now, but still sailed fairly regularly. Not perhaps the
greatest of kits, but it looks good on the water, which is what counts for
me. It always attracts a lot of attention from passers by.
I generally use 1700 or 2000mah Nicad packs, in either 6v or 7.2v form.
The newer packs are 7.2v as they are cheap, but 6v is probably better, as
although it handles 7.2v fine, it gets a bit hot! The running time is
fairly short (20 minutes max.), but it handles very well and looks
particularly impressive at speed. I keep intending to try a 3000mah pack,
which should give me a longer run time. The only modification I made
to the kit was to allow for easier changing of Nicad packs, by adding a
battery box over the top of the motor. The original battery box is tucked
away in the stern, under the aft deck, which makes pack changing very
difficult.
I mostly sail my models on the village duck pond, which is only a few
hundred yards from where I live and is a sizeable area of water. The big
advantage of this model for me is that it fits into the boot of my MX-5,
which some of my other models don't.
Well done on the excellent web-site. Regards, Victor |
