Graf Spee Plans
« on: July 05, 2006, 12:50:44 pm »

I am having a bit of trouble with my Fleetscale plans for Graf Spee, it is very cluttered.
Does anyone know of a clearer set of plans for the boat?

dgp, I know that there is a planset of 7 sheets of the Graf Spee in Germany.Very detailled, scale 1:100 with a source of items manufactured by some vendors (hull as well). Have a look under: http://www.vth.de/shop/shopfiles/shoppage.asp?asearch=1&PS=1&showcat=1&tmpl=table&stichworte=graf+spee&TID=41FG39W2C6SR212080729

It is edited by the VTH-Verlag.
www.vth.de
It is about 65 Euros plus p&p which will be about 60 quid.

Hope this is out of any help for you.
Happy modeling, J?rg

You can also get a decent size plastic model kit of the ship.
Use this with pics off the net and your plans and you should end up with a good likeness.

The Heller Graff Spee is a good example.

Not so much on the plans side but a good help you may find is one of our customers building the aeronaut entire range gets a book from Amazon. There is apparently a complete series on the German boats Bismark Prinz Eugen etc Yes the superstructure is cluttered on many of these kits but at anything above 1/144 scale its gets smaller to put all the things in and is sometimes not really viewable from a 2D plan
I think a 3d style picture helps and there are a number in the books I think he said they are about 5.99 each. Haven?t had chance to look myself but I suspect a search of Amazon will pop them up if not will ask him to post the details on here for you.

Not just the Graf Spee, but all (?) other warship plans bought from the NMM. Why on earth they only produce them in black and white beats me. Especially when you consider their charges. One of the reasons a warship plan looks so "cluttered" is because the various ammendments (refits etc) are shown in a different colour. Horrible. So if you have a print in black and white, how can anyone decide which line is "red" or "blue" or "green" etc. About time the NMM got its act together and remember that not everyone visiting the museum is only there for a "touchy-feely" experience.
