Spybot driving me nuts!
« on: August 09, 2008, 11:30:32 am »

I've just allowed Spybot to update itself to the latest version (1.6) and I now find that there are info balloons popping up from the Taskbar every time I click on a new program or file. I can't seem to find any way of stopping these and they are encroaching on what little sanity I have left.
Has anyone else found the same problem and preferably a solution to it?

If you use 'System restore', it will give you time to think it out again.  ;)

You really don't need a program like Spybot. Just delete it - it will make life easiest.

If you decide you really really want it, look for a menu setting called "tools" or "Options" - there should be config options in there to disable.

spybots forum is here.

I just started using Comodo BoClean which is quite unobtrusive running in the background, and Arovax antispyware as something to scan with.    Both found a few bits n pieces that their predecessors missed.

dave,

Get rid of it....It has a lousy reputation and you should not need it anyway.

OK, guys - Spybot is now history and I've downloaded Doc Frary's commode. Hope it harbors less ess-aitch-one-tea than Spottybotty.

Mind, to keep pop-ups (and pop-unders) at bay, I have an ancient copy of "no-ads".  Sits quietly in the background, appears on command if an unwanted window comes up, learns about it, and kills every subsequent attempt ever after.  Don't know if its still available as a freebie.
