Spektrum DX5e transmitter batteries.
« on: April 12, 2009, 10:16:18 pm »

Found a slightly annoying problem at the poolside this morning when I needed to replace the supplied non-rechargeable transmitter batteries.
The only ones I had were Vapex 2900mAh rechargables as sold by Component Shop and ModelPower.
They were found to be just too thick to fit in the battery compartment.
Later measured at home - non-rechargeable 14mm dia - rechargeable 14.3mm dia. - not much difference but enough to make them unusable without surgery to the battery compartment.
Has anyone found any rechargeable batteries that do fit?
Suppose the moral is always check things before going to the pool.

Hmmm - read your posting and immediately went out and tried on my DX5E and almost had the same problem. I put in a set of Camelion 2700's and could get them in but they did appear to be sitting a lot tighter in the battery box and the last one I put in sat just a little high - I gave a it a push and one of the others popped out. I put that one back in and they all stayed in place and there was power to the unit and the batter box cover would go on ok. I don't have a micrometer to check the sizes unfortunately. YMMV...

I have a set of GP 2700 mAh and a set of Duracell 2650mAh rechargeables and both sets fit in my Spektrum DX5e. Got both sets of batterys off ebay.

I use Jessops 2300's on mine, have to jam them in, but I charge them in the Tx so no probs there as they don't ever come back out

Thanks for replies.
I think I will try some Duracells.
According to this :- http://www.duracell.com/procell/design/cavity.asp
the battery cavity should be designed to cope with up to 14.5mm dia batteries to comply with IEC standards.
Spektrum don't seem to have done this.

hi guys,
i bought my dx5e last year and although i am still using the original batteries as supplied with the set, i have tried many of my rechargeables for fit and have found no problems. these have been from cheap ni-cds to expensive nimh. my most recently bought "AA" batteries are maplins own brand 2000mah which also fit perfectly in the dx5e. perhaps you were just unlucky to get a dodgy made case.
                                                       glowworm,

Yes, Glowworm, it's possible the case is different to others, although I have two transmitters and they are both the same.
Think it's more likely that Vapex batteries are slightly thicker than average - although within international specifications.
Will try other makes.
Cheers.

I recently bought a Spektrum DX5e for my model boat project and must say I was a bit worried after reading this post so I immediately got mine out of the box and checked my battery collection in the TX.

I have a massive collection of rechargeable batteries from my r/c car days, as most models need 8 in the TX and 4 for the receiver (if not using humps)..

Anyway I have just tried th following batteries and found absolutely no problem at all:

Energizer ACCU 1200mah
Energizer 2500mah
Jessops 1500mah
Uniross 2100mah

All of these fitted in the TX fine, the cover went on no worries and the TX turned on like it was suppose to.

Just my £0.02
