Telly driving me mad!
« on: September 02, 2009, 06:15:02 pm »

As people on Mayhem know everything about everything...

We recently bought a new TV, a Sony Bravia - very nice set & picture. Being deaf, I like to have the subtitles on a lot but for some weird reason they have disappeared from ITV1. I can get them on the other channels including ITV2 and ITV3 which are transmitted on the same MUX (channel group I think). Tried everything right back to a factory reset with no luck. Good signal strength etc. etc. Searched the internet to no avail.

What is so infuriating is that my Humax HDD recorder which is tuned into the same aerial can get them OK. Of course I can choose to watch ITV1 via the Humax by switching over and most of the programmes are rubbish anyway but it's very irritating all the same.

Any further suggestions gratefully accepted....

Hi Colin,

I just turned on the Subtitles on my new TV and the arrived on ITV 1 and are fast and in time with everything so I don't think it's ITV 1 which is the problem, hope that helps??

Thanks for the comments. I'm wondering if it's something to do with different tuning setups in the TV and HDD. Baffling! The local transmitter at Midhurst has a Freeview website so I might ask there.

My old television had C1, C2, and C3 settings for closed caption...
I think that only C1 was ever in service...

Seems I'm not the only one with this problem. I have been advised to report it to ITV Customer services which I have done.
