Most realistic?
« on: October 01, 2009, 10:51:28 pm »

Following on from Model Boats excellent model boat competition;

I was wondering, what is the most realistic boat, ship, diorama, feature, detail you've ever seen?
( Lets keep it marine related for starers ).   Not a competition, just a showcase and for fun.

2 that spring readily to mind are Mike Heanton's - Vital Light, Puffer
and JIMMY WOOD'S - Seawell.

What's yours?

 Martin.

A model of Trent lifeboat 14-14 built by Reg Woodcock has all the charts on tables, pens and pencils in holders etc. A photo of the model is on the Alfold Show pictures, unfortunately it does not show the inside.

For me  one  of the most realistic  models  is  Ted Parr’ 1:144  USS Nimitz
The detail just  takes your breath away.

That level of detail at 1:72 scale is good.
At 1:144 scale is remarkable.

Indeed it does doesn't it, been drooling over it for ages. I love the level of detail that's gone into it, seeing models like this tends to keep me on my toes in my modelling. As i mentioned, these were from a friend and i don't have anymore pic's of this boat i'm afraid to say  :((

Hi Voyager

Your reply #7.
This looks like larger sections rather than a whole model.
Is this also the USS Enterprise? and at what scale?

At 1:144 scale is remarkable.

The other remarkable aspect is  in  the  weathering even onto  the deck markings  and as you say at 1:144.

Blowing my own trumpet, I was a bit pleased with the way this photo came out:

The water was just green enough to look like a the full size thing.

Couldn't agree more!!! Bet if you were to convert it to B+W in photoshop and age it a little, I reckon it may look EVEN more realistic  ;)

Super model (I hope I can do as well), very realistic but is it accurate?
