If you use and iron or steel its worth making sure that it is well protected
with a 100% watertight coating or you will have a rust problem if you go anywhere near
a pond.  Rusty old pig iron may be ok in the bilge of a tatty old harbour tug but not
in your latest pride and joy!

My tactic for free lead is simple but effective , make friends with a builder , i have a steady supply but have to say as already posted safety is paramount when handling molten lead  :-))

Sheerline, I think it was the roman version of oyster sauce, made from rotten fish. The lead glaze on the wine jugs didn't help much either, nor the wine sweetener made from lead. Apart from that, what did........

Methinks you are correct Tobyker, I remember this from my trip to Italy and a guide telling us about the lead problem. I certainly do remember it was a very sweet mixture.
 Modern lead ain't quite what it purports to be these days, someone, somewhere told me they mix Zinc in with it now and the stuff roofers use is this type, maybe someone can confirm this.

To H***with jumpin out of a JU152 without a parachute,....as for the price of lead,well,its about the same as it was when this topic was started,..unless you live in China,..where its like hens teeth, {-)and 3 times the price, {-)
