Hi Guy's
   I started putting photo's of this build on another site but thought that why not this one as well.

The hull is the 1/32 scale Smit Polen from Scale Hobbies but i'm building the Japan,

That,s a cracking job you are doing there, I have the Smit Japan hull, and a large set of plans, I started the build then sort of lost my way a bit, I seem to do a better job on the older steam and 60,s type of tug, maybe because I worked on that type
In saying that, after seeing your build I might just dust it all off and have another look at her. I have the motors, korts, and all the electrics ect. Where would you be sailing her when she is done, It would be nice to have a closer look when she is ready.

Hi all,
I NEED HELP i've just bought the hull markingsfor my Japan,but now comes the proplem,
in the pack there are 4 diffrent types a circle with G L , L B , A B , B V on either side but which one is on the Japan,the other markings are the one that looks like fingers the one set has TF ,T , F , S etc but the other set has the letter L before the above letters see photo below .

Hi jenno,

Super work on your tug, makes me jealous! In reply to your questions re markings, the circle with letters are Plimsol line markings, the letters representing the insurers, LR being Lloyds Register.
Your 'fingers' are loading marks for different types of water (Tropical Fresh, Tropical etc.) Hope this helps you.

Hi there,

Just starting my smit polen build with the same hull as yours, i am an experienced builder but i am struggling with the plans as they don't show the prop center lines or the keel profiles. i was just wondering if you could post some pics of yours from the rear and if possible measurements for the positions of the shafts.

your build looks great hope mine looks half as good

Hi Greg,
I hope this pic helps,the props are 115mm from the very end of the hull to the centre of the korts.

Thanks, that is spot on

did your plan have the details for the keel? i only have one sheet as i bought the hull second hand! not sure if there should be a second one?? it shows a side profile but not one from the rear or underside!

it came with two graupner korts that looked like a drunk monkey had fitted them. but have now removed them, glassed the holes and ready to refit them in the proper place!

Jenno,

You're doing a fantastic job on the tug, and I look forward to seeing more pictures!

Danny is quite correct about the meaning of the markings. The loadline mark (the one with the fingers) is always forward of the Plimsoll mark (the circle with the line through it). The TF and F lines point toward the Plimsoll mark, and the vertical line is 540mm forward of the center of the Plimsoll mark circle. There is also a deck line mark that is centered directly above the Plimsoll mark, and it's supposed to be 300mm long by 25mm wide. The top of the line is flush with the top of the deck plating.
