Bulkheads ?
« on: April 26, 2010, 11:43:32 pm »

OK, fibreglass hull & I needed a forward bulkhead to store/hide additional tanks... Cut out a cardboard Cornflakes packet fold in half & trim to size/fit. A little snip here & a little snip there... Getting close. Transpose it to 1/16" ply..A little whittle here & a little whittle there ...getting real close, time for the engineers blue ( I'm kidding.) OK, saw out the inspection hatch with a razor saw, laminate with dolls house (real mahogany) flooring strips by laying down epoxy & taping all the strips togther with clear Cellotape (using black epoxy that oozes between the "planks" simulating pitch.) Cut out a frame for the hatch using a picture frame box jig. Paint with yacht varnish for that nautical look...

A whole day gone.....   %% There must be an easier way....  :embarrassed:

A day?!!  That sounds pretty quick to me, maybe I allow myself to get distracted too easily. :embarrassed:

My coasters lifeboats were supplied as fibre glass mouldings which would have gone together in a couple of days with a wooden lining and internal detail.  I decided to scratch build them and each one took about four months.  If you worry about the time taken you'll end up going crazy.

Doesn't look like much ...Makes me realise the amount of work goes into the detailing of your boats...
