old boat

Here are some photos of that old steam boat that was on ebay a couple of weeks ago.
I do not recognize this engine and expect it may be scratch built.
I am unfamiliar with this style of boat, perhaps it is based on a working boat,
and if so would I be able to find pictures of the kind of rudder and additional super structure it may have had?

There is no flywheel on he engine, and the propeller is particularly strange to me, could it have been built for speed?
It is a pity that the boiler fittings are not present, and the steam pipe has been very badly soldered.
However, she's not beyond repair, and I would like to attempt her restoration.

What a superb looking model, you get a real feeling of age just looking at it.

What size is it?

Looking at the coaming that is running around her I would say that is all the superstructure she had.
Superb find though.

Looks to be a "Conversion" from a Sailing Dingy, the rudder loops on the transom lok to have been for a drop in type rudder with a tiller arm going forward into the boat over the rear "Deck". If it had been built as a "Straight runner", it would probably have been longer and narrower.

yes, that is what i thought Ian, although I would have expected to find some sign that was a keel at one time, and there is none.

Interesting engine, looks to be 1/2  to 5/8 bore single acting with (I suspect) a slide valve rather than a piston valve.
Good clean up and a new flywheel (it will need one) and it will the part. Not sure about the boiler, you might have to start again there.
I love the hull.   :-))

Would be nice to see the engine with the "lid" removed and also the boiler underside for the firing arrangement. Con rods though are VERY flimsy??
