Hello from the US Virgin Islands

Hope this is the right place to post, I couldn't find a new members section.

My 9 year old son, Andrew, and I are steam engine collectors in the US Virgin Islands.

We currently own three steam powered model boats.  The Midwest 'Elliott Bay' Steam Launch.  Marten, Howes and Bayliss, 'Topaz', Edwardian Steam Launch, and a scratch built 62" launch with a John Hemmens marine steam plant.

Here are some pictures of Topaz on our handrail at home.











Hope I've posted these links correctly.  Still trying to figure out how everything works. My apologies for any mistakes.

Can we also post links to videos?

Greatly looking forward to exploring the forum and meeting fellow enthusiasts. :-)

Where would be the appropriate place to post?  Does the forum accept videos from both You Tube and Photobucket?

Where is the best place to look at other member's steam launches?

Hi Kusuchi, lovely shots in a lovely setting.  I take it the 62" launch is the one recently finished by Rosyth who informed us that it was off to the Virgin Islands when he sold it?  If so we all watched that one being built with great interest here:

I know St Thomas well as I used to visit there every week on a ship called the Cunard Countess for a period of about five years or so from '90 to '95.  Great place and many memories of leaving the "Greenhouse" too late for comfort to join the ship before she left in the evening!!

I could not think of a more beautiful existance than Sun Sea and model boats. :embarrassed: %)

Yes, that is the one.  Thanks for the link.  I read it with great interest.

I think we're it for working Model Boats and steam here.  Somewhat isolated in this interest.

The Greenhouse is still here and hasn't changed much.  We live right above Limetree Beach which used to be a big favorite with the Ship's crew in the period you were visiting.

Going to shoot video of Topaz there this afternoon. :-) ( Wind permitting)

Welcome to the site from me as well. I also know St Thomas very well having stopped there on many occasions with various Royal Caribean ships, if only I had know there were fellow models there --------  :-))

Hi Phil,  I'm guessing it was you who subscribed to my You Tube account.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

If it's you, those are some nice Cheddar marine steam plants on your site.  Always wanted the Krick Alexandra, but was inhibited by the lack of availability of the Cheddar Puffin.  Never was really satisfied with the alternate choices.

Most of my steam material is on photobucket.  I'll post a photobucket link soon so you or anyone else can browse my entire collection.

I used to know St Thomas back in the 60's took 2 or 3 square riggers in there (Head boats) Knew the Green as well ---Welcome to the mad house..
