Never heard of these before, who makes them and what are the specs? Inline or V Twin, single or double acting etc. A photo would be good, I can never learn too much about steam engines. Thanks, Ian.

Ian,
A picture speaks louder than words.

These are two of the engine that I have made

This one has a pump fitted operated via an eccentric on the flywheel

These engines are scratch build with the exception of the standard which is bought, to date I have made about 15 off.

Trouble is George, Blackgates site is atrocious for trying to find prices and a comprehensive list of castings, as has been noted on other forums. Their new premises has rocketed them into the second millennium, pity their ability to have the web site sorted hasn't.  :embarrassed:

Ian,
Never have any problems with BLackgates, I use their Catalogue and order by phone , normally 3 day delivery and have used them for years.
Blackgates in my opinion are one of the best stockist for what I want, the engine standard is all that I require as the rest is built from my stock material.
As we don't have any Model Engineering supplier in Scotland I have to order from the South, Blackgates will supply what ever I need and to the lengths that I need without having to go to a metal stockist in Glasgow and have to buy round bar in 3 m lengths some times 6 m lengths..
Wish I lived down the road from them like you which would save a bundle on postage.
As to their web site, can't comment as I  never use it.

KIwi Ian,
I have been building steam engines for the last 15 years since I retired, have a look  at the Old Stuart engine on my other post and you will see some pics of my Flash Steam engine.
Or go into Steam R & D and my flash steam project is there under  ( OOYAH A FLASH STEAMER ))

George, I was not clear at first whether you were producing the engines or who Blackgates were but further postings have clarified things. Mr Google found Blackgates website for me but that only shows the categories of things they do, not the details or any prices and I cannot see any mention of the standard or complete engines. Maybe I need to get the catalogue sent out? I am not that keen on getting up in the middle of the night to make an international phone call. I am always on the lookout for engines to purchase, just recently discovered that MSS were offering marine engines in two versions but when I went to order they had been discontinued. I only have enough projects to keep me busy for the next three years or so and still I am ordering stuff! Cheers, Ian.

Hi,

I have some castings for a Blackgates V-Twin that I bought a long time ago, the trouble is I have moved house and lost the drawings for the dimensions, does anyone know if drawings are still available, I think its time I started on machining them up, I've looked on their web site but there is no mention of this engine or drawings anywhere.

Best Regards
