New To R/C Submarines Need Help and Advise Robbe U-47
« on: May 20, 2011, 03:29:24 pm »

This is my first time using a forum.  I'm not close to the local Sub Committee in my geo, so I'll rely on this as my main guidance for the build.

I'm right in the process of obtaining a Robbe U-47. I have done research and have several questions and looking for advice. First, the Tx I've talked to several vendors in the US and I hear use 75mhz, but the Robbe site shows 40mhx, and I assume not to use 2.4Ghz. Which would work the best now and the long term? I'm planning to go with a static dive system, and will most likely use the Engel TA 825, comments please. Also I was looking to add the Engel Bayonet Lock Ring, good idea or bad on the WTC?

My skill set is a scale modeler for years and am fairly competent with my mechanical abilities and will use a friend who a Electrical Engineer for any assistance with the installation and setup of the electronics.

Any help would be appreciated.
John

Well 75Mhz is the US ground frequency and 40Mhz is the European frequency. Get whichever is correct for where you are located. An Engel tank is proven way to convert the U47. There are at laest a couple of guys on here who have done the conversion recently. They may chime in if they see this trrad. The bayonet ring sold by Norbert Bruugen and others is definately a good idea. The Robbe locking system often seems to fail and needs to be modified. I think you should be fine doing the conversion with your experience.

No differance. Voltage will be determined by what motors you are using. If your going to be using a BEC, I'd prefer 12v. Lower voltage will require the ESC to be able to cope with double the number of AMPs compared to 12v -but even the most basic of ESC will be able to cope in this boat.
