First hello and North Light help!
« on: June 26, 2011, 10:08:32 pm »

Well good evening, i am a new member to this site. I have made plank on frame static kits. I have never constructed a working RC model so here goes! I am choosing Caldercrafts NorthLight, an easy enough build. However tips and photos from anyone that has built this model including tips on runnning gear would be much appreciated. i am trying to research the most appropriate ESC and battery pack for the model.  :}

Hi Paul

Welcome to the forum! (It's the members that make it Mayhem - so it helps if you're a bit mad.)

I too am building Northlight but, as I am on a steep learning curve myself, I am not the best person to advise you. You should get loads of help and advice from the guys (and gals) here - I certainly have.

One important point, everyone here loves pictures - so post as many as you can. (You will notice that I post my mistakes too!)

Paul,

Excellent idea to join a model boat club (I don't have one near me).

Broomfield Park is a bit nostalgic for me - as a lad, I used to take my yacht there. My dad found it in a junk shop and we used to take it on the bus from Potters Bar.

Not only that, I went to school in Fox Lane!

Fond memories then. I have a similar experience with my dad going to Southampton common boating lake. PAUL

Paul

Getting back to you're original post! - My current ESC was made up from a Maplin's kit and I have little confidence in it. (http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=30000.0)

My motor is a 385 which seems to give a reasonable scale speed with low current drain running on 6 volts. I think, when the time comes, I will probably go for ACTion's P81. Dave Milbourn is obviously not the only supplier of ESC's but he offers excellent help and advice.

Thanks Mike. I did think about approaching a supplier for advice in a swap for me purchasing the goods! I press on!
