Sheffield Ship Model Society Open Day - 2nd October 2011
« on: September 22, 2011, 10:19:18 pm »

S.S.M.S. Open day is on Sunday 2nd October between 1000hrs and 1530hrs. S.S.M.S. staff will be in attendance from 0730hrs. for Clubs attending with their Gazebo's.
The address of our venue is: Millhouses Park, Abbeydale Road South, Sheffield, S7 2QQ.
Leeds large Models will be in attendance.
During the day there will be:
A Club Steering Course competition. This will be run by our Society Rules and not MPBA Rules. This event needs to begin around 0930hrs, with two on the course at any one time. It should be completed by 1300hrs, dependent on numbers competing. The course will be set out in half the lake, with the other half for free sailing. Time to complete the course will be 6 minutes, with points awarded for faults. The lowest score wins. In the event of a tie the time taken will be taken into account. Our new Tom Gorman Trophy, which is unusual in itself, and which Tom presented to the Society at our recent A.G.M., will be awarded to the winner plus a smaller trophy to keep. Tom Gorman Trophy will be held at our Society Room.
Raffle will held during the day, with the draw taking place at approx. 3pm.
All model boaters taking part are requested to turn off their electrics and place their boats on the wall alongside the lake when not in use. Members of the public will not be allowed to handle any boat however, members will obviously be allowed to show them their boats in detail and chat with them, which is what the day is all about.
Frequency Control will be run from our gazebo alongside the pool, except for 2.4Ghz of course.
Weather permitting, a Junk Race will take place at 3.15pm. Junks can be 'purchased' for £1 each. The winner and runner up will share a proportion of the takings, along with the Society.
The site has toilets, including disabled, a large cafe serving meals and drinks and a children's play area. There is ample parking at either end of the park, or on the road where there are no restrictions.
We hope that the weather will be kind to us and you all have a fun day. It will be nice to see old friends and make new ones too.
Thanks for browsing.

hope it brings people out.
Not been to Millhouses Park for nigh on 40 years,
Hope that I can still find it.

Hi Richard,
A doodle to find with the SatNav, takes you right there. If no SatNav come off at Junction 33, follow up Sheefield Parway. On the roundabout to A61 Chesterfield go straight across, first right, down hill, left at roundabout into 40 limit, over bridge, turn right at traffic lights on Abbeydale Road South. Park is on the right.
We will be pleased to see you.

What a fabulous day we had at Millhouses Park. Who would have even dreamed of 25C temperatures on 2nd October. I think that everyone enjoyed themselves and a special Thank You to everyone for making it SSMS's most successful Open Day ever staged. Many thanks to the SSMS Committee and members who helped from 0610am this morning. See you all in the Spring.

More pictures of ships on display

Nice cabin cruiser

Wrong, when you see the boat out of the water with it's cabin lifted off,
It is a work of art, scratch built interior, working shower, realistic motor and a sleeping cabin at the rear,
my photograph's don't do this build justice, but here they are

The cruiser was built by a gentleman called Bill Allen who also built the following two ships,
a Grand Banks Schooner and a Pacific catamaran

Here's some from Stan of  Kirklees MBC stand

Stan's even put the rubber band's on the lobster's claw's,
That is attention to detail.
