Offshore Warrior Lite - Shaft Failure
« on: October 16, 2011, 07:41:49 pm »

Took my Offshore Warrior Lite out for a blast this morning. Unfortunately the shaft broke :((

I have not seen this type of shaft befor, it is 2/3rds flexi drive, the other 1/3rd is solid shaft. I'm guessing that this is a bespoke item. Can anyone advise where i might source a replacement?

Thanks.
Charlie

Thats a standard flex setup, you can buy them at Prestwich in different lengths either round end or square what diam is that 3/16" or 1/4"?.Sory never heard of an offshore warrior lite so have no idea what power source your using.Make sure you leave at least 1/8" gap between drive dog and the strut or stinger because cables shrink under load and things will bind up and fail, could be what happened to yours but that said it could also be a duff solder job where the shaft joins the cable.

Looks like 3mm Diam. The replacement arrived today, very good service from Slough Radio Control Models :-))

If i get another failure, i will try a prestwich one.

Hi Charlie
I am glad that you got fixed up.
My 26cc Zenoah powered petrol boat runs on the flexi shaft that Prestwich Model Boats supplied. I bought a spare one in case of failure. Two years in running the boat the original shaft is still running well with little sign of wear.
However I think it is worth pointing out that these types of drive systems do need to be well lubricated for reliable operation.
For me that means that after every run I remove the unit and re-lubricate it.
Cheers
Craig
