Although Clive Palmer is an eccentric I think this project will come to fruition. It will be a modern ship below decks with all the safety bibs and bobs and the luxury in the cabins that only people like Clive can afford. After all Palmer likes making money.

Surely I can’t be the only person on this forum to read the “Sunday Times”?
Anyway, this is the gist of a story that appeared yesterday…..
The Chinese shipyard CSC Jinling of Nanjing is upgrading its facilities preparing to build the “replica” of Titanic. It’s a 3 year project and is expected to cost more than £350m. At 885’ long and 187’ high, it will have 9 decks and 840 cabins to carry 2,400 passengers and 900 crew. Although the ship will attempt to faithfully replicate the originals exterior the interior will be modern high-tech. As will be the underwater part of the hull.
The ship will be operated by a subsidiary company of Australian mining billionaire Clive Palmers “Blue Star Line”.

It's an insult to all those that were lost, and/or lost friends/relatives/loved ones on the 'Titanic', but the original ship, it's owners and operators, have little to be remembered for.

Unfortunately, the passage of time often redefines an event, issue or story, and the same has happened with the 'Titanic' story.

I'm just trying to figure how BY Has managed to miss the original thread about this when it's cropped up?!

I can't see how building a replica of "Titanic" degrades its memory, or dishonours those who died in the tragedy. I would have thought that the opposite could be true - building a replica honours the original vessel. Isn't that we we do, in effect, when we build a model of a particular ship?

I have to say that I will be surprised if it actually happens, although it's looking more and more likely. Clive Palmer has had some grandiose ideas before that have come to nothing.

I didn't "miss" it at all......I just wanted to steer clear of all the arguments and simply give an update that appeared in yesterdays Times. I've got no interest whatsoever in joining the Ayes" or the Nays"....just a simple, unbiased bit of new(?) news. So leave me out of this one. BY.

Sorry BY, It was an assumption based on the fact that the article you included didn't really provide anything that hadn't already been covered, especially by DickyD (good on yer, matey) back in October 2012, and less in the way of 'latest news' than Raaartygunner added last week with the inclusion of a link to all the 'Titanic' trademark applications now being sought - Titanic III? Really?

I wonder when the lazy 'Sunday Times' journo' will learn of that tit-bit and write a follow up?

An article in the press here yesterday reported that the new Titanic would have 3 classes, and the passengers in each class would not be allowed in areas allocated to the other 2 classes. Clive Palmer stated he would travel 3rd class because he "likes bangers and mash"
