Sea trials of my Sheerline Trafalgar class went well today had her in the water for about an hour surface running only with a quick dive to check her out under water I think she may be a bit high in the water but I have plenty of lead to correct this here are a couple of pics of her

cheers guys made up with the traf will be even better when she is balanced properly unfortunatley the Akula let me down today well not the Akula herself but the auto leveler failed and cause a complete radio fail due to a dead short
first time ever for the Akula to not work streight out of the boot sorted now though.

think I may need a bit more ballast in the stern to drop the shroud a touch and lift the bow had to take on a lot of water to acheave the water line observed on the pics

Leveller gone short circuit. That's a new one, I wonder if you have a bad regulator on the board. Was this one of Mike's or another make?

Had a leaking shaft seal Andy dried everything out over the last week but the leveler became caroded on the solder side of the board was not one from action was one from the philipines sortewd now cleaned up and touched up with a soldering iron now working well again with seamingly no damage

That'll be a subtech unt then. Glad you got it working okay. Mike usually pots his levellers in epoxy, so if they get a dunk that doesn't tend to be a problem. You can squeeze a bit of silicone RTV into the ends of the heatshrink if you want to do the same for your board. Don't use bathroom stuff though, it gives off fumes which are corrosive. I use the servisol brand. Hot glue will work too if you have a glue gun, or even araldite. Bit more difficult to remove however.

For the life of me I couldn`t think of the name Subtech but thats the one Andy all seems to be fine with it after a clean up with a toothbrush and a bit of toothpaste cant tell Jan I used her toothbrush though ha ha ha. Will use some araldite on the ends.

Going to tag on here the build log of my Sheerline Trafalgar Class sub built in the guise of HMS Trenchant


this picture is the bits that came with the hull I dont think anything was missing because although the sub was made by mr Sheerline I aquired the kit from a mayhemer as a swap.



This picture is the two hull halves as you can see I reatached the nose on the bottom hull due to this being the first part of an S or Z cut which I didnt like and wouldn`t work with the catch system I wanted to use


Picture shows the flood/drain holes in the bottom hull along with parts of the rear dive planes
 

Picture shows the front dive plane front flood/drain holes and some mesh over the holes to stop anything getting taken in to the ballast tank that could cause problems

Picture shows rear dive planes and linkages for the rudder and rear dive planes made them up differant than in the destruction manual because of the way I wanted the top hull to fasten to the lower hull


Prop shaft and shrowed in position all looks a bit messy in the back from now on but tidies up ok at the end of the build plus black spray paint hides a multitude of sins  


Picture is a shot towards the stern of the sub showing the piece of top hull I removed so as to perminantly fix it to the bottom of the hull

This is why I did away with the S or Z cut that was originaly in the hull with the small sonar dome that sits on the top hull the piece of brass tube and a nut and bolt I was able to fashion a hold down catch for the top hull.

this is the catch made up the sonar dome was drilled and the tube glued and pinned in place through the upper hull the length of plastic go`s to the front of the sub through a guide piece.


this is the other end of the catch that runs through a guide


from this top view you can see the sonar dome in its normal location and positiond as it would be if glued into position you can see the catch side protruding from the hull


In this picture you can see the sonar dome is turned and the catch has now moved back into the hull thus allowing the top hull to be freed from the bottom hull.

Excellent build Mark, sneaky use of the radar housing! I'll borrow that idea if I may for the Permit, makes a nice neat fixing.

This picture was taken later in the build but is shows the bow of the sub where the catch fastens to it also shows the front dive plane connection to the WTC.


Matt black has been applied all over the sub this picture shows the grey now going on as part of the camo effect for HMS Trenchant.


Newspaper everywhere now ready for the first cover of Blue.      At this point I would like to thank U33 Rich for the pictures he sent of the colour scheme for HMS Trenchant.

Grey now applied and I think looking the part


the nearly finished artical. I am going to fit the hand rails and flag poles to the sub.



First trials at New Brighton she went realy well just a little bit of fine tuning to be done

Rich U-33 if you want to borrow my idea of the catch you are most welcome just send a blank cheque to my home address to cover the royalties  
I havent shown on here the build of the WTC as this has been shown before
