In Germany the exhibition "Faszination Modellbau Karlsruhe" (fascination modelling in Karlsruhe) has recently been canceled by the organizer. It  has been a big show with all varieties of our hobby from ships to cars,  trucks and aircrafts. This exhibition is now being replaced by the new  "Faszination Modelltech" in Sinsheim (22nd to 24th of march 2013)
 
 No  problem to change name and location but the new one will be smaller and  there is no place for us ship modellers any longer! Only aircraft and  small areas for trucks and cars. Their homepage is talking about action,  speed and that there is no place for softies in there...
 
 To show that the ship modellers are still there and set a sign the idea was formed to make an international day of ship modellers. The date will be the sunday of the exhibition, 24th of march.
 The idea was born from some users of the forum schiffsmodell.net so the main planning will be done over there. But it should be an international show without any borders between different communities!
 
 So, what can you do?
 Just  meet at your local pond, lake, river or indoors (depending on the weather) with as much modellers and visitors as possible. Then send a photo of this meeting to the following mail-adress and mention date, location and (if possible) the name of your club.

These photos will be distributet to our magazines with an article of this day.
 
 There  is also a logo for this day, please check out the link below. As the idea  was born in Germany, the logo is in german but an english version will follow soon.

Several ship modelling groups from germany as well as from over seas are going to participate. Also dealers and suppliers for ship modelling parts wants to participate, it is there topic as well.
 
 In  the last days the two major ship modelling magazines "schiffsmodell" and "Modellwerft" contacted us as well as the sub marining community Sonar. They will support the idea with articles about the day. So it seems as if we can really set a sign!

I presume that there will be model ships at the Intermodellbau in Dortmund during April, so all is not lost; at least I hope so, as I'm just about to pay my deposit for the trip.

Yes, currently for Intermodellbau no changes are known. SchiffsModell.net is planning to be an exhibitor there.

This decision from Schall Messen has currently only an impact to the former Faszination Modellbau Karlsruhe. The second exhibition, the Faszination Modellbau Friedrichshafen they keep as it is for 2013.

So, this action shall be more or less for prevention. Prevent that decesions like this become usual.

The logo for that day is now available in english and soon we´ll have a spanish version as well.
 
 I´ve sent a text  to the german magazines Schiffsmodell and Modellwerft. In both magazines this will be published in February issue.
I´ve also translated this text to english as far I´m able to.
It would be great, when someone of you could check this translation and send it to english modelling magazines. To get this, please contact me.
 
 In March issue we want to publish all events. For both I´m in close contact with the chief editors of both magazines.
 
 An update for your information, at the moment there are participating several communities and clubs from Germany and Austria, some distributors and suppliers are planning to participate as well.
 Clubs from Los Angeles and Bay Area are planning a show this day, in New Zealand there will be also some action, as well as the swiss federation of ship modellers, they distribute this information to their clubs.
