New Years Honour
« on: December 29, 2012, 02:25:03 pm »

I would just like to congratulate Janet Madron, who has just been awarded the B.E.M. in the New Year Honours Listings, for her dedicated work for the R.N.L.I.Janet is the widow of Stephen Madron, who lost his life along with the rest of the crew of the Solomon Browne,in the Penlee Disaster of 31 years ago.She has never stopped her many and varied activities to raise funds for the R.N.L.I. It is said that if there is not a freshly baked fruit cake in the Newlyn Lifeboat house, for the crew, then she is either ill or away, and this rarely happens.I cannot think of a more deserving person.
Well done Janet!

Thankfully anyone can nominate a deserving recipient rather than "Suits" away from the operations being the deciding factor.

Just makes one wonder who nominated "The mad woman of chayeaux" :embarrassed:

I was just going to ask that............

and well done to Janet.......not enough people like her are nominated, in favour of sports people.....
seems today that all you need to do is peddle like billyo for a while and you get a knighthood, whereas, you can spend a lifetime working for the good of all people and have to fight for recognition......not that those ppeople do it for any recognition.

My hat goes off to janet and my chest swells with pride for her family...A BIG WELL DONE.
Neil.

Good to see proper people being recognised

My great grandfather got the OBE in the early '50s
The reason is still classified but we think given he joined the RNAS in 1917 as a radio operator then left government service as a RADAR guru we think it may have something to do with that.
Unfortunately the king was too ill to present it and it was sent out by post with a hand written letter in which he was thanked for his work in the countries hour of need and signed by the king.
It is something the family still are very proud of as will most people who receive these honours.

As said though to many get them for nothing other than being "famous"

Just for some info but over recent years there has been an increase of the military honours given out
to cadet forces personnel who are normal everyday people who in there spare time work with the cadets in a similar way to scouts and guides etc.

You do not get info on why military personnel are given honours the same way the
Civilian honours are given, so thought I would give it a mention also for normal people doing
Good in the community

I assume that the mad woman of Chayeux is the wife of the accomplished parlimentary real life billy liar who was our ex prime minister and is now making mega bucks on the back of his illegal war?

Then again, ordinary folk don't need gong to feel a sense of achievement.  We do it because it's what we do and a simple 'thank-you' means more than a gong. :-))

You dont look for thanks thats not why you do it we know.  But it would be nice for efforts and achievements to be recognised in the right order and be thanked.  Saving a life iin a force 10 is somehow higher than making millions out of Human Rights legilsation.

Hi Martin,
not sure what you meant about the 2ND Cox at Sennen? Did he previously get awarded an MBE,as I cant find anything in this years list. There are a few other RNLI people who have won awards this year, fro other parts of the country, and I would also like to congratulate them.I mentioned Janet, because she is so well known for what she does for the RNLI down here, even before she lost her Husband.
Cheers,
Mick

These are the true people of society no matter who they fundraise or support. Even in the face of tragedy there are many people who get back up, dust themselves down and carry out.

A big 'thank you' to all those people who continue to serve communities throughout the country (and world for that matter) be they doctors, nurses, fellow rescue personnel, the carers etc and don't ask or receive the recognition they richly deserve.
