I love pies, but I don't need them, and so I eat them occasionally as a treat (and I really enjoy them much more).Since I got back home to a routine (November 2012), I have lost 10kg.
I have not been on a diet, just eating more healthily, walking, and changing my attitude to food. Diets are for a set goal, and then you go back to old habits, which is why they don't work. A change of attitude and lifestyle can be permanent.
I used to live to eat, now I don't.
I start the day with coffee, and don't breakfast until I am hungry. Usually about 10-11 am. But I will also eat at about 9-10pm as well. I eat chocolate, and take sugar in my coffee. I have just cut right back (not out) on sweets, fried food, red meat, and bread.
If I am hungry I eat, if not I don't. The only regular meal I have is dinner with my family in the evening, and that is more to do with being part of a family. I eat smaller meals or snack about 4-6 times a day.
I also walk about 60-90 minutes everyday. This doesn't leave much time for TV.
Someone once said that the biggest killer is a sedentary lifestyle. It is also one of the biggest causes of diabetes.
I read somewhere that if you are diagnosed as pre-diabetic, an hours walking a day can put things back to normal. Not running, walking. Even chubby guys with bad knees like me can manage that (just wear suitable shoes for walking).
