ive bought a paddle boat off ebay this week does anyone know anything about these ive looked on line but can only find 1 other thats in scotland ive always wanted a paddle boat but they have always been way out of my reach as far as price but with a lot of work as the hulls in a poor state and its plastic i think it will be a nice boat and if anyones intrested i will post pictures as i go along

Hi Tugs.
The vessel is called Lulonga. Think it was one of these african river steamies.

If you use the forum search facility at the top of the page you wil find the plans and build article.
Just enter the word Lulonga.
The build was in the Dec 1994 M. Boats mag and there may be a PDF for it online.

I also have a Lulonga, bought off this site last year, sails very well and looks good on the water. Steers with two large rudders, not by the motors, but does not like astern very much due to the shape of the paddles.

if mine turns out half as nice as yours Richard i will be happy not sure if iam leaving it steering like a tank or putting a rudder on yet i have managed to split the hull away and think iam going to fibre glass it dont fancy scratch building one

hull split away it came a part easyer than i thought it would fibre glassing the inside as i didnt fancy scratch building one

Glad it's going we'll mine has a fibreglass hull but I don't know where it came from or who made it.

I would suggest you get rid of the drive chains and sprockets as these will generate a high level of radio interference if my experience with a paddler similarly outfitted is anything to go by. Belts and toothed pulleys are preferable.

Thanks Barry i will keep a look out for a set but for now will have to use what ive got as no money left now but will put the radio well away now you ve told me that think i might have the paddle bug as well now been looking at plans of a mississippi one now but it will be a long way off

any way i managed to re join the hull today and run some resin round the join from the inside that should make it water tight

a couple more of todays should have the hull painted tonight its not perfect but its the best i could do at least it wont leek now

Hi Tugs
As you asked here is a picture of the rudders and also one side of the toothed belt drive to the paddles as suggested by Barry. The shape of the rear hull on your boat seems a lot different to mine.

i didnt like the stuck down paper wood on the deck so used some thin planks i had laying around the stain says its satin so i hope the shine dies down

well the weather was nice today so took the paddle boat down to Fleetwood and had a great time sailing her heres a couple of pictures if anything the rudder could do with being a bit bigger but she still turned ok so now on the look out for the next project
