Greetings, I agree that having a whistle greatly enhances the steam boats. I have a River Queen launch with a PM Research of America whistle fitted to a 5" (125mm) by 3" (75mm) vertical boiler and that works well but the whistle is adjustable and it took several attempts to have it adjusted correctly. I also have a 1/2" (13mm) diameter whistle on my large paddle steamer which has a 9" (225mm) by 4" (100mm) boiler. The large boiler works much better with the whistle than a small boiler would do and I can blow the whistle several times without affecting the steam pressure. It would be interesting to try the three chime whistle used on locomotives but I fear that it would need too much steam. Has anybody tried one? I do not want to buy one just to find out it does not work and I have wasted money on it. I have attached (I hope) a picture of the PM whistle with valve mounted on the boiler. Cheers, Ian.

Bonjour,

Ian, thank you to share my opinion, and I agree with you, the larger the boler is, the better it is to maintain the pressure while whistling.

I have several like yours I noticed that they manage better the pressure variations (2 - 4 bars) than the "flute like" ones Example.

About money, no alternative, either you pay or you do. And about doing, I have VERY good modelists friends who are able to make all the "wood", the "metal" AND ... Listen to HERCULES...
