My Vietnam Selection
« on: July 07, 2014, 10:51:00 am »

As there appeared to be a lot of interest on RED 181 resurrection of an old PCF I have added some pics of my Vietnam big three for anyone that is interested, hope they are ok.

Where did you get the figures from? I was looking for some in the 1/48 scale for a ATC (H) I built

Nice work is it 1/16 ?

I'm planning (slow progress though) to build on in 1/10 -1/12 scale and are gathering as much information as possible for this build, I got a drawing though John Lambert Plans PCF 94 and I got some CAD drawings for the .50cal machine gun.

Just have to finish the 2 other builds I'm working on.

Certainly not!

I'll freely admit I'm not a big fan (sorry!) of hovercraft, yours, is just beautiful - aesthetically.

It looks like it's just finished a patrol  :-)

Any pics of it in action or on the water?

The Pibber is just so nice - it looks good static and it looks fabulous out on the water.

The PCF, if I may, in comparison, looks a little bit shiny all over - even the figures, if they were just flatted back a bit the PCF would match the excellent achievement that your hovercraft is.

Thanks for showing them - from the 'modeller as artist' approach, I find that hovercraft to be something else!  :-)

Hello folks.
PCF now in dry dock to repair all the ravages of war ( well sailing anyway)
Its in for a repaint so will post some pics when done, now at least I can get the varnish mix correct and get rid of that sheen forever.

I am struggling finding any of the water outlets on sides of hull, I assuming its cooling, and of the rear exhausts, all will become clear why I need them!

Great pictures sir and puts me back to 1968 when I served as a Radioman at the CSC base in Qui Nhon.  Went out a few times in the PCF's stationed there.  That US Navy base is gone now.  Memories.  thanks for sharing.

What is the howitzer mounted on that boat? It looks positivly archaic compared with the ball mounted weapon on the hovercraft, that looks space age!

Lovely work and I sympathise with you on the cost of resin figures, they are not cheap at any scale.

Hi
The ball on the hovercraft is a 40mm automatic grenade launcher.

Thats an 81mm mortar  with a .50 call machine gun mounted on top.
I will post some new pics of the PCF after the repaint shortly.
Thanks for looking

Hi. Thx.
Depends where you want your boat to be in the conflict.
The PCF were originally used close offshore where they were painted 2 tone grey then when the PBR,s went further upstream some of the P C F ,s went into the canals where they were painted olive drab.
Mine is one of those Olive Drab acrylic.

think I will be using some modellers license and cheating a bit. I want the river scheme, but love the painted wheelhouse flag on the offshore grey boats, it will be our secret! :}

Hello SirThank You for posting this. I am Just starting to gather plans for this build. As I have NEVER built a hovercraft before, any advice you can share would be Greatly appreciated. Also I would like my version to be as realistic as possible, how did you make the" skirt " around the lower section flexible and durable? Thanks again for postingGeorge
