« on: August 15, 2014, 08:05:25 pm »

Managed to almost get this set up but cannot get the reverse (ie pushing trigger forward) in the boat

Anyone managed this

I do have the ESC programmed for Forwards and Reverse.

You might need to do a double tap.

?? y'say!

Push forward once for 'brake' - and release.

Push forward again for reverse.

You shouldn't need to - you haven't changed the tx's neutral point, or full travel definitions.

All the double tap does is, tap once to bring the motor to a stop, and tap again to go into reverse - it's supposed to be a way of preventing swamping the stern when going into reverse - Me? I'm not so sure…

Some escs have what is known as reverse lockout meaning the motor has to be stopped before reverse can be engaged, this is normally found in car escs to protect the transmission

If the Spektrum is intended for aircraft use it may be the transmitter that's causing the problem
(similar to my radiolink TX's)

The TX may have a safety override, in that the throttle channel defaults to fully closed at
switch on - (safety for aeroplane engines = throttle fully closed at start up)- unfortunately this
usually equates to full reverse on R/C Boats and then when the receiver is switched on and the ESC
initialises to neutral, the combination of the Transmitter and the Reciever/ESC gets itself completely crossed up!

Try this - when you switch the transmitter on - wiggle the throttle stick backwards and forwards -
(this clears the safety start-up) then switch your receiver/ESC on.

If you haven't already, set up the ESCs using this manual (setting the neutral point is V. important!):

…and give my double tap another go.

Heres the latest update

1. Tried what seems to be every setting possible on the DX4C still not sorted it

2. Checked the ESC using a programming card and it was set up as per the confirmed guidance given by their Tech Support

3. Next I inserted a Losi RX into the boat, and used an old Losi 2.4 TX which had been bound to the RX previously.

4. First time I powered up only had forward running

5. Second time I powered up I tried the double tap of the trigger on powering the RX and I managed to get Forward and Reverse working.

So this confirms the boat setup will work, its just a case of trying to work out the setting for the DX4C.  My gut feeling is its something again to do with tapping the trigger, but several variations of this so far have been unsuccessful - will keep trying whilst seeing if anyone else has this

It works fine with a RX car and checking the settings in that it seems identical - so its got to be the trigger tap I feel

Well managed to get things working - pure luck though

The ESC is a marine one and as such has no brake facility as normal

In the DX4C although I found no direct reference to it, I found a switch with a Brake function - I set this to 100% and reverse is now working.

What is strange is when I switched the DX4C to a car model I have set up, I could not infact find this Brake switch again !

Thanks for all of your help
