The entire model boating lake area and the new amphitheatre will be fenced off with wooden post and rail fencing before Mayhem, most of it is complete to date with the metal railway fencing being replaced during the Autumn, so no vehicular access from the public areas to the lake areas.The club car park remains as is so no further to carry boats than before. There are three self closing gates for pedestrian access.


All the hedges have gone and the whole area has been opened up and quite nice it is too. As a club we have already noticed a greater foot-fall around the boating lake and an increased interest from the general public and youngsters of all ages. And can you believe it, some established residents of Kettering didn't even know there was a model boating lake there. Can't be a bad thing for the hobby.

We used to have a springer comp and club 500 racing..........
 
How about  a  Yacht race................How many times can we throw Martin into the lake

Hobbies include photographing model boats from underwater and seeing how many burgers will fit onto one bun. Unable to distinguish left from right until the stars come out, and is said to have once got lost inside his own trousers.

Then you should have been at Wicksteed this year............... 

• How about a Concours d'Elegance for the "prettiest" (most appealing) model? To be judged by all those who bring and sail a model.
• Blind steering comp? Should be extra fun once the Scottish lads have had some refreshment.
• Timed steering runs - sail the course once and then see if you can sail it again in exactly the same time. Nearest to the original time wins (scope for hundreds of complaints e.g. "he got in my way on purpose", "he had a metronome hidden in his jacket", "my phone rang halfway through the second round" etc etc)
• Springer tug-of-war - individual and team prizes

This year, now I have a car, and with a bottle of stout and a following wind, I'm going to do my level best to be there. My Akula will have operating torpedoes by then, so don't make me angry....
