28 mm Brass Chimney Cap
« on: November 30, 2014, 11:44:39 am »

I am now the proud owner of a 3 1/2 inch Maccsteam boiler for my first steam launch build. I am assembling all the necessary bits and pieces but have come to a stop in my search for a brass chimney cap for the 28mm chimney. I have no workshop facilities so I need to buy one. Does anyone know where I can obtain something suitable?

Although the web site doesn't give any dimension you could try http://www.mamodparts.com/spares-Chimney.asp?part_id=100562. They do spares for Mamod engines!

Why not use a 28mm olive from a compression fitting ? They can be bought separate from the fitting, at a plumbing store.

Thanks for the link. I have contacted MamodParts and their response was 'These are meant for a 3/4 inch (~19mm) ID chimney and would therefore be way too small.', so that's out. Nice looking capping though.

I would never have thought of a brass olive. It might be possible to modify one to provide a suitable capping.

Thanks both for your responses. Looks though like I may have to find a friend with a lathe to turn me one up. :((

Give Mike at Maccsteam a call.  Although not advertised on his website, he sometimes does a short run of brass caps for his chimneys - I have one and it fits like a glove - and really looks the part as well  :-))

Good luck
