, you have Great Yarmouth and Gorleston clubs on your doorstep, also Lowestoft is not too far away! These clubs tend to take our hobby less seriously than others, in that whoever has the most fun/enjoyment wins - even if they don't get 1st place! They also favour a lot of sitting, chatting, playing, eating, laughing, etc - it takes some getting used to!!
I used to do semi-serious yachting (Marblehead and R36R) but found the "rules" too restrictive for enjoyment (being based on full size craft)! Now I have a TT Victoria which I can bash around with no skill whatsoever, and have a great time. If you do get into IOM racing, you should be able to pick up the basic rules in only a couple of years
