It's mainly "scale" boats and there are usually a handful of IC, Multi, Race boats on show.

I guess it's a reflection of where the interest lies, which is fair enough.

Well Skippers it's now just a month to go to the International Model Boat Show and the non-club invited entries have been taken up. One of the entries is a gentleman who specialises in rowing models so this should give you all something worthy of close study.
As some of you may have read the organisers refer to the non-club entries as 'Steve's Top 10' and I would like to make it clear that this doesn't mean these are the ten best models on the planet. They are a selection of people who wanted the opportunity to be part of a non-club display. As you will all understand not everyone can afford the time to be part of a 3 day show (4 if you include set-up) and sadly one gentleman with some stunning models, who was really keen, had to pull out due a pending operation a few days before the show.
I plan to run what has become known as 'Steve's Speciality Slot' on the pool each day and therefore if you have something which is fantastic, unusual, or just plain wacky let me know. You can PM me via the forum or find me at pool side all day, every day. I have invited the gentleman with the rowing models to be part of the session and we also hope to have 3 large ferries on the water together. So don't be shy in coming forward.
I look forward to seeing you all on November 6, 7 & 8th.
Steve.

I had thought to come to the International Model Boat show this year but it proved impossible.

Are the organisers aware that there is no public transport to the venue. The only bus is around 5pm. The venue says that for many exhibitions a courtesy bus is organised from Leamington Railway station but not for the model boat show.

I have now got something else planned for the relevant weekend but I might hope for a better situation in 2016.

Maybe down to my advanced age and senility but I can't find any reference to a "Bring and Buy" stand at this show.
Does this mean there isn't one ?  Can any one confirm ?

I do not think they have a bring and buy section.

Thanks for the updates on the "Bring and Buy" situation, at least it will save another perilous journey up the loft ladder.

It is clear that Ian McCaffy is plugged into the grapevine !!!!! Mike Shepherd is brining a selection of rowing models including the 'Beast' which is a mind bending machine with multiple oars. Other highlights are the 'Back to Front rower and one of my favourites ..... the two Red Indian's in their canoe. It promises to be a great display.
Don't forget if you have anything interesting for the 'Speciality Slot' then let me know or see me at poolside.

Hi all. I plan on going up to the model boat show at Fosse way this year. I have been a couple of times before, normally on the Sunday. But due to family events I can only go on Friday the 6th this year. Will it be as good on the Friday as it would on the Sunday? I am thinking about models on show as well as the trade stands. Thanks all.

Phil
The show is at its busiest on the Friday and Saturday, and as far as I know all the exhibits have to be on show for the whole 3 days - and no sane trader is going to pay three days' rent for a stand and leave after two.

Hi phil
any model on display has to be there for the full 3 days . This is a rule from the show organisers. So on Friday you will set all the same model and the trade stands will be fresh so you will get first shot at any great offers .

John
PS I will be there with Celestine ferry

A note for any one going to the show on Friday.
The M40 at the moment has Junction 12 Gaydon closed off peak . This is for the south bound carriageway only ,both on and off. The closure are from 09:30 till 18:00.
North bound is not affected . The closure does not happen at the weekend . Note if you are south bound on the M40 and do not exit at Junction 14 the next exit is Banbury at Junction 11 some 34 miles later .
Please check with highways website before you leave to see the latest on the junction.

After last year's shannigans with Steamboat  Phil, I'm planning a surprise this year. Unfortunately it will only happen on the Friday so keep your eyes peeled.

Hi All,
Just catching up with this thread as I've been moving house and also at the Midlands Model Engineering Show. (It was packed with people yesterday - Thursday).
To re-confirm some of the replies above ..... all of the models, clubs and traders will be there for all 3 days. In addition the people who are part of the Non-Club display will be there all 3 days. This includes Mike Shepherd with his amazing rowing models. If you've not seen 'The Beast' .... then make sure you don't miss it.
If any of the non-club entries read this thread please be advised that I will be calling you during the next couple of days to give you my new home number.
I was given a sneak preview of a couple of newly built models created by a well known North London modeller yesterday and I can't wait to see them on the pool. He may need to sell his car and buy a truck !!!!!
Not long to go now guys ..... see you at poolside.
P.S. Do I need to arrange for a young nurse of ample proportions to be on standby in case Steam Boat Phil needs attention !!!!!
Steve.

Hi Danny,
For your info I've just moved to FILBY just in land from Caister / Great Yarmouth.

As you're coming to the show please stop by at Poolside and say hello ..... it would nice to meet some of the modellers in this area.

I have already discovered that there is a very active group of model yacht people who sail at the bottom end of Ormesby Little Broad, just behind the restaurant on Main Road, Filby on Wednesday and Sunday. I was driving by during the week before we moved in and pulled in to say hello ....... they seemed like a friendly bunch. I may have to move to the dark side and get a yacht !!!!!!

Steve, I'll certainly say "hello" at the show.
Now you're 'local' (- it may be some time until you grow your 6th finger)  {-) , you have Great Yarmouth and Gorleston clubs on your doorstep, also Lowestoft is not too far away!  These clubs tend to take our hobby less seriously than others, in that whoever has the most fun/enjoyment wins - even if they don't get 1st place!  They also favour a lot of sitting, chatting, playing, eating, laughing, etc - it takes some getting used to!!

I used to do semi-serious yachting (Marblehead and R36R) but found the "rules" too restrictive for enjoyment (being based on full size craft)!  Now I have a TT Victoria which I can bash around with no skill whatsoever, and have a great time.  If you do get into IOM racing, you should be able to pick up the basic rules in only a couple of years  %)
