working winches/trawl gear
« on: October 18, 2015, 08:04:54 pm »

hello to all.if this is not the correct area to ask this feel free to move it.....my question is this how do you guys make the fiddly bits that make these things work???? all we ever see is the end results and they are stunning....but some pic's or vidio's of what you used and how it was fitted to make these things work is what I and other intermeadate builders want to know...yes hacking a servo is good info..it's how did you incorporate it into the crane or winch to hide it or how and what gears&pullys were fabed up and fitted.....this is a dark art as far as im concerned or mabbbby im just looking in the wrong spots...I have soldered up a trawl table for long line fishing  for salmon that my uncle had on his boat in Alaska but I want to make the outriggers go up and down and spool the long line skates in and out. and am having issues with  how I will fit the gear in the exposed table...so if you have pic's or vidios of how you did it or working on a build...(the seabex crane is awesome but how did you do it).. maby you could fill this thread in please....many thanks from a newbie to this aspect of building boats

Often the servo or motors are hidden below the deck or inside the superstructure.
For my crane, I had a large gear motor driven by a standard ESC.

Martin Holst placed the servos inside the superstructure on his first boat, and
sometimes placed them next to the winch as mechanical boxes for the winches.

Inside the back of the superstructure.

Ron Burchett and Gary King place motors inside the superstructure and then used
worm and spur gears to drive the winches out on deck. Other times they are
just placed out in the open to get the best operation.

You can see some of these in Bellevue, at the Bellevue Regatta in June, or
more at Tug Regatta in Bellevue in August.  . http://shipmodelers.com/
