What a brilliant idea to use the plastic cups to get the taper for the Kort nozzles. I have filed that away for future use!

Ik started building the mast of the ship (In Holland we call it the voor(front)portaal but I dont know how it's called in English). I had some very good drawings whitch were printed out (very kindly by the guy who gave me the drawings) in scale 1/75. At first sight I thought it wouldn't be a lot of work and my plan was to post the mast here totally finished but I found out it was loads of work so I make an update to show how far I am now.

I started gluing some styreen together and soon ther was a nice mast born at the attick.

IMG_20160323_205631_zpsfw4iid90.jpg

IMG_20160323_205640_zpsyeemvvvb.jpg

And I had to make some stairs. I had bought some stairs in the hobby store but then I found out the stairs had an angle so my ready made stairs weren't good to use

Yes the green label shows the price of this steel ruler (50 cents in the second handshop) Did I told you I like the secondhandshop very mutch

Some soldering with my stone age solder station (second hand shop )

If you are not good at soldering.... Use LOTS of S39
IMG_20160324_210109_zps0dvaj2tb.jpg

And now I had to cut the stairs apart and sand them to make them smooth

IMG_20160324_210333_zpsari4vhqd.jpg

Yes!
IMG_20160324_213342_zpsjmcxirnw.jpg

And then I did some installing things to fit them on the masts and it turned out well.

The masts are not ready but I hope to show them finished in my new update.

Kind regards

Some progress just because I am proud of it. I made the trawl-beams and glued them to the mast.

The most work is in installing the ridiculously small led's On every mast are just 5 led's but it was a total nightmare to place them and their wiring. But it works   I hope to make a small vid for you later.

Good lord that is fine work Kees. I especially love the pivots on the ends of the masts. Excellent :-))

Regarding your old soldering iron? As long as it does what it is meant to do and without being harmful, then its still the right tool for the job.

What you have created is a work of art. Such brilliant use of plastics and metals. Obviously, you can be justifiably proud of your achievement. Well done Kees. O0 :-))

Just one question, if I may - what is the S39 ? (my soldering is terrible)

Kees, I love making things, I think of myself as a patient person when it comes to making models but your patience is 100 x more than mine. I will say it again your work is awesome, my jaw literally dropped O0 .

Imagine if Kees and Radio Joe opened a shop together it could be called real life in miniature! Well done you are proud and so you should be.     U2

Dave

Watch out with S39 when you want to solder electronics. Because it is acidious it will damage the electronics in time. I use solderingwire with a resin (flux 3,5%) core to solder leds and stuff. But for brass and copper constructions S39 is the right thing to use.

<*< While building the mast I had more then 100 times the urge to smash everything to very little pieces. I am not a very patience person but thats maybe why I have this hobby.

Thank you all for your enthousiasm

I worked on the masts and they are finished now. I have build the reinforcemwent at the front of the masts.
Posted Image

I also worked on the chanels where the fishinglines go trough. The lines come from the winch and go to the beams

Here you can see the side of the mast seen from the workingdeck

And a picture of the whole package with al the resingcasts and polyesterlaminated parts. With this package I hope to make someone happy, a man who was very helpfull to me in the past.

Posted Image

Something funny. I used the last drops of pu resin that was left. But after casting this is what happened.

Can't say I've ever seen anything like that happen before. I know the resins have a shelf life but would not have expected that kind of reaction. :o

Hello folks

I started to make some rigging for the model because there are a lot of blocks on this ship. The first ones to build are the jumperblocks. These are used to lift parts of the nets. Their shapes makes it possible to lift the nets, chains shackles, hooks and other stuff without damage.

A very bad picture of the originals
Posted Image

The housings cut out of thin brass sheet.
Posted Image

And then the rolls. I made these on my small lathe. First I formed a toolbit/chisel and then I made the form

Yes! Finely there are some video images from the cave %%

It is now one year ago that I recieved the drawings for this model and soon after that I started building. It all takes some more time than I planned but the results are more important to me.

No building activity tommorrow  because I hope to visit the Intermodellbau in Dortmund.

It will cost me money though....

So please dont tell the missus ;) %) ;D

Building more blocks. These single blocks look very simpel but I wanted them to look realistic ans made some work on them. I made 3x8=24 blocks (25 actually but there is a parts-eating monster somewhere in my hobbyroom.)

An example of the blocks. But there are very much different types and over the years the blocks changed.
