With the electrical upgrades to Meeching now in hand, it's time to look at cosmetics etc. Most of it is just down to some painting and creating a few small details from plastic card and balsa, but I have a problem with a split in one of the legs of the tripod mast. Here's a close-up. Looks like the mast is solid plastic and has split at the weak point where the metal spar has been fitted. There is some tension on the mast and I can't get it to go back together. And if I did, I have a feeling it would eventually just spring open again.


So, I need to get some filler in here to bridge the gap, sand it to shape, then paint it. What filler would you suggest? Green putty type or something like Milliput? Any ideas on how to proceed would be most welcome, thanks.

Hi Andy.  I would use milliput epoxy putty,you can clean up the area and fill it, once really dry sand down and re paint.  Geo

I agree. I use Milliput many times a month and it has the benefit of not chrinking or eating into plastic.

Many thanks, I'll pop into our local model railway shop and see if he's got some, if not get some on line.

use milliput White.

It is the strongest and hardest setting of the range, with a very close molecular strength, unlike the green or terracotta which are soft and quite porous.

Used a lot of them all in dolls houses and figures.

Try and get as freah a pack as possible because it does go off. One goes very hard and can just fragment rather than mix with the other, while the other can just go very very greasey and be horrible again to knead. I know that shops cannot throw stuff away all the time, but they do hold on to this sort of stuff for too long.
