Well they liked each other well enough to stick together and leave the BBC, whether friendship or loyalty good luck to them, and who knows why Clarkson did what he did we weren't there, it always looks worse for the person who looses it no matter how much provocation they are subjected to.

The other two realised that they were second fiddle to Clarkson so it made sense to hitch themselves to his wagon, I doubt if they could have worked with anyone else.

I used to like Clarkson once, his newspaper column was often funny and perceptive as were his car reviews but in recent years he seems to have got a bit up himself and is just recycling old stuff in a different wrapper. Such is fame.

Interestingly if you read Hammond's first book leading up to his crash which almost killed him one of the first people who was there for him was clarkson. Reading the books by all three of them gives a very strong impression that they are mates otherwise they wouldn't talk and socialise in their own time.

It is a sad fact that some of these personalities do start to believe their own publicity and think they're untouchable. It's a great pity that there wasn't an alternative to sacking Clarkson, offhand I can't think of one, but I think we have lost one of the best entertainment shows on the TV.

There is precious little els on unless you like football, cooking or reality shows. I don't like any of them!!!!!

why is it that the TV programmers think every sole in England is a football fanatic, we've been recording stuff and saving it so we can get away from it.

My wife is an expert at flicking through channels for forensic drama's. Did you know that by adroit channel swapping you can get 3 hours of NCIS a day, 2 hour of Criminal Minds, Bones, or Poirot, Miss Marple, Hawaii 5-0, etc. If she gets stuck there is always CSI, Midsomer Murders, Death in Paradise, a new Morse series ... Often there are so many pathologists on at the same time she is spoilt for choice.

Retreating to the workshop is the only way of avoiding dead marine autopsies.

And where did you find that illuminating information, Mr Bishop.

I think that that is a misnomer on your part just to provoke discussion.

Mr. Clarkson and Mr. May didn't spend three days as a sitting vigil at the hospital where Hammond was taken after his horrendous crash, lying in a coma, just because they work well together.

Do you. Or perhaps you are privy to inside information which we would all be interested in.

No need to get ratty BFSMP, I just read the papers that's all and there have been hints from time to time that they are not always just one big happy family. As close colleagues I would expect them to look out for each other anyway. I'm not that interested either way as I don't watch the programme. I did enjoy James May's recent mini series on reassembling things though.

thank goodness for free view. I can watch new tricks and Dalzeil and Pasco any time over football lol.

I just knew you would say that Jim, and so you did! No, of course I don't believe everything I read in the papers, my Dad never let me read the Dandy or Beano, it was Eagle or nothing. If you stopped reading fiction and fantasy years ago then you've missed an awful lot I'm afraid, including Terry Pratchett.

You are very kind to attribute infinite wisdom and knowledge to me but I'm afraid I still have some way to go yet. I still trail well behind Inertia. However if you do read a lot then you pick up a lot, most of it probably useless but interesting nonetheless and sometimes useful in answering people's questions.

I have to agree with the article, in that a lot of viewers are watching programmes using on demand streaming, or catch up programmes. And some types of programming are getting a lot of viewers that do not show up in the current system of overnight (live TV) ratings.

There is an alternative to new TG......I have started watching older editions of Fifth Gear, and although it is a car programme in essence, they do have some fun and natural exuberance, and far far better than the new tg............sadly not the fun of the old trio, but easy to watch without the screaming idiocy of evans the eejit.

Yes, everything Matt LeBlanc sounds scripted, but at least it's well scripted!
Eddie Jordon, of whom I quite respect in F1... is just a puppet idiot is this show!

Yesterdays review of the new Rolls Royce 'Dawn' was quite well done I thought.
