Cheapo transmitter?
« on: August 07, 2016, 10:29:43 am »

The only TX I've ever used is my Spektrum DX6i, but I know there's a completely different type which is like a pistol-grip type thing with a steering knob on the side of it.  I guess speed control is via the trigger.  Could one of those be usable with my Spektrum and Orange receivers to give me a cheapo TX if all I need from it is rudder control and speed ahead only?

You won't get a cheap one to run with the Spk and Orange DSM2/X receivers.
The Spektrum version is a DSM TX and I know that the three chan Rx for it will not
bind with my Dx6i, so I assume the opposite is also true.

I think you'd have to do a bit of tinkering e.g. get an old wheel set and convert the tuner with an orange conversion kit. This means a bit of know how with regards to the insides of the TX, and it requires good soldering skills.

Thank you gentlemen.  OK then, I'll change to the question to ... given that my receivers are Spektrum and Orange 2.4GHz, I only need rudder and speed, I don't need reverse/astern, and max range needed is well under 100 meters, what's the cheapest TX I could use?

A stand alone Tx for either of them is not the cheapest option.

You can get a pistol grip TX complete with the RX for £18.01 plus P&P ...  http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__51681__Quanum_2_4Ghz_3ch_Pistol_Grip_Tx_Rx_System_EU_Warehouse_.html

or a more traditional design TX and Rx for £21.49 plus P&P...  http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__69508__Hobby_King_2_4Ghz_6Ch_Tx_Rx_V2_Mode_2_UK_Warehouse_.html

I don't believe those are compatible with orange/spekktrum rx's.

No, I realise that, but if he has no absolute reason for using one of those Rx in the model, then these 2 sets are much cheaper than finding a stand alone Tx that will definitely work with his existing Rx's.

"ground based" and "air based" spectrum/orange have different timing. as above, use a full set of cheap car stuff.

Ref the cheap car stuff, am I right in guessing that "servo reversing" means the speed control is off when fully anti-clock, flat out when fully clock, and reverse is switched?

The speed control is the trigger and the wheel is the steering.
Reverse servo dictates the rotation of the motor and left / right
on the wheel.

Thank you.  I didn't want to get one and then find that "off" on the speed control is in the middle.

Sorry Ned - I think you've just confused him. O0

The wheel controls steering - usually turn clockwise to go right, anti- clockwise to go left BUT your steering servo may not be set up that way, so you use the servo reverse switch on that channel to correct it.
The trigger is normally used as pull back for forward and push forward for reverse. Again you use servo reversing on that channel to change this if you need/wish to.

On both controls the centre position is 'off' or neutral.
