MPBA Straight Running finals, Victoria Park, London
« on: September 28, 2008, 11:54:05 pm »

After seeing a demonstration of the art of Straight Running, and hearing about the finals being held in london, I thought I'd take a visit to see just what its all about.

the pics are black and white becaue with the pond full of duckweed, a black and white shot on Nord Icelandia in the weed looks very much like its breaking its way through ice, and I forgot to re-set it back to colour afterwards.

Thank You Martin

The aim is to get your boat, across a course, between the two white centre markers, which give 10 points, and as each competitor has 3 runs, there is a 21 to 30 point opporunity, miss the markers and its nil poin monseur!

The points are scored as follows.  nil point<< |7|8|9|10|9|8|7| >>nil points

There were several classes taking part.
Ship, basically anything that resembles a scale ship such as a cargo ship or warship
boat, basically anything that resembles a small personal watercraft.
functional, basically it simply has to float and go in a straight line
wedge, shaped exactly is as its name implies, a wedge with a prop on the back!

These are the pics of Nord Icelandia sailing through the duckweed, photographed in black and white, it could easily be a ship in the arctic

So after watching the event for a while, Ghost says "I thought they were supposed to go straight" slight pause, Ha ! says I, and you thought it was easy (well they are supposed to go straight------ish) So next on the agenda, Ghostie tries low level camera shots (the ladder is to for some of our older members to get in and out of the pond---works as a tri-pod too apparently  O0), and then we gaffa tape Ghosties video camera to a 5ft boat powered by a 35cc Jap engine, and shoot it down the lake for Ghost's next movie blockbuster  8)
And you all thought straight running was boring.
Thanks for coming down Ghost, and I hope we entertained you, as much as you entertained us.  {-)
Roll on next season  O0

Hey Mark

What can I say but WOW I have been straight running for 15 years and Videoed from the side so always seen that view but as Phil said Scary looking watching the catcher get closer and closer then those huge Man Hands coming down to stop you will have to use Potential threat next time as its a little faster and black he-he.

My Dads at Kew this weekend but coming round to see the video in the week.

Great stuff Take care Deb's xxxx
