Just came back from Lego Land U.K. , they had nothing this good.

i appreciate we have no 'grey funnel' stuff at LEGOLAND Windsor -(as LEGO as a company take a very strong anti combat / warefare policy to the models built for display within the legoland parks)

 but i would appreciate your comments on why you think nothing else at windsor lives up to this / your expectations....

OK you are totally correct in your comments and I apologise . I should take note of "the think twice post once comment"

I should really have said that I personally would have preferred the aircraft carrier type models etc. However this should not detract from the point that the other Lego displays are Very impressive in the main central display and then the other side displays around the park. Also the rest of Legoland was really very good, the show was well staged and my son had a great time  , if not an expensive one for me at the end of the 3 day visit in the shops...

Back to the thread, I would be very interested to see the Queen Mary should he build it.
and where do you get that quantity of Lego from ??, is a plan made up first of the build ??

Those blinkin' mice that used to shout 'no spitting' from the side of one of the water rides were askin' for it if y'ask me!

On a more serious note it seems that companies like Lego can be very PC until there's significant quantities of dosh to be made...

Star Wars licence anyone? A very quiet film series without the combat scenes.

I think/thought that the Legoland displays were the poorer for not having a Naval or airpower section.

I'm in danger of going a bit off thread here but it is relevent to our current discussion.

I actually applaud the likes of Lego and Disney who have the courage to stand up in this day and age and refuse to follow the majority of commercial enterprises in thier support of military merchandise.  I agree that financial pressures sometimes dictate otherwise but both these companies have not compromised thier ethics on these issues and I think it is a good thing.  We are seeing more and more the results of youngsters being exposed to ever increasing levels of violence either in movies or in computer games and we all constantly complain about this but then criticise companies who do not appeal to more adult interests.

Just as an interesting side, Disney Cruise ships are just about the only ones in the world that do not have casino's.  Disney are doing this in the knowledge that they are throwing away millions of dollars every year by sticking to this decision but how much additional revenue is being generated by attracting customers who do not want to support a company that advocates gambling we will never know.

Likewise Lego provide an oasis where you will not find reference to military or conflict and to me that is a great thing.  It might just make the older generation look a bit deeper and appreciate the things in life that were not created for the purposes of killing and maiming.

Re-reading this looks a bit like I am on a soap box, which is not the intention.  I am only providing another point of view to maybe provoke some positive discussion.

obviously my view point might by slightly biased, but LEGO do  retail star wars kits, the - underlying  ethos in the star wars is good versus evil, - surely a good message to be sending out....?

yes LEGO retail pirate sets with guns and canons and stuff,  but they dont market  a construction set with instructions for say a tank, a cruise missile or warship.....the idea is the toy products retailed lead to constructive play and role playing and development....

 but the nature of the product means the consmer can if so desired produce a model of such a theme if they so which....it just means the company do not need to promote it...

 i applaud disney in the crusie / casino issue too.... its something i was not aware of,  there is nothing to stop those who wish to gamble whilst on a cruise, there are plenty of online gambling sites... no need to promote gambling whilst on board by having a casino physically on board too !

glad you enjoyed your stay whilst at LEGOLAND, and i did not mean to put you on the spot but its good to hear your points,

sadly we cannot introduce military items into our dispaly, we are desperate to add HMS belfast to the london display !!! - damm company policies !

the LEGO comes from the main factory over in denamrk, we just order in the parts we think we need for any new exhibit.....

all items are planned on a graph paper and are draughted by hand in advance of the build of the model....

as to your comments about an expensive day out then  i can only agree, however check out last minute .com for late deals, or save tesco points and exchange them with tesco in advance for a discounted ticket- thats the most cost effective way to get in !- plus give me a yell in advance of your next visit and i will try and  show you round the model studios !

 in terms of boats or  models generally ?

 we have built stuff upto the 7 tonne mark - not gone much past 7 tonnes ,
we have done a full size motorbike, full size train locomotive, a boeing cockpit,  huge monsters/ dragons/ creatures, buildings, figures, animals...

I got back last night from 2 days in Legoland Windsor with SWMBO (her idea) my 5 and 3 yearold and 2 other families. We all thoroughly enjoyed this. I could of spent 2 days going round Miniland on my own to be honest. The ship modelling is nothing short of incredible add to this the moving cars and boats and even a working drag strip. it makes some of the model villages I recall from childhood as being a bit limp.
My personal favourites were the London docklands, the Lloyd's building and the town hall complete with Ken Livingstone & Boris Johnson(including bike). I commented to one of the other dads that it would of been fun to plant a streaker on the Wembley pitch model and he pointed out it allready had one.

Just trying to work out how many Lego bricks I need for a Sunseeker mega yacht or even a trawler.

Awesome 2 days highly recommended  (I will try and post some pics when I have 5mins)
