Well now the major issue of the name is sorted, latest bit of update

First coats of anti foul added, prop shafts, tubes and A frames on order along with brass bolts to secure the three rudders.  So should be able to look a bit more like a carrier hull soon.

Started to modify the rudders, so they show correct profile, one done, two to go, hopefully running gear here soon so can crack on with that.

Was the island so far over to allow fitting of anti air missiles etc along the outside?

It also allowed continuous flight deck ops, as a/c could taxi around  side of island, to either be struck down using side lift or ranged on stbd cat.

That is very clever. It has echos of the flying bridges that allowed aircraft to be moved from the landing platform to the take off one on HMS Furious before she was refitted.

Well prop shafts aee here, so that means braving the cold to fit them  {-)
Today I removed the portion of hull covered by white tape, this is to allow the lift to be able to descend to its correct level.  As built there was no room to allow the underneath lift platform supports, the edges will be plated in and contain the lift mechanism.  It brilliant having the drawing to work from, especially as she is a "what if" type build.

I think another might be on the stocks as someone else is buying the drawings, so maybe we will one day have CVA-01 HMS Queen Elizabeth and CVA-02 HMS Duke of Edinburgh which was the listed name.

Port rudder added, and yes I know its at an angle but that's how they were to be, apparently it was easier to follow the contours of the hull, and it worked on the test tank :}

May be that the angled rudders help with vessel stability? Just a thought...

Certainly allows for propeller removal, then the full withdrawal of the propeller shafts with sufficient clearance of the P&S rudders..........

Rudders can be removed in drydock, however if clearances are an element of the design saves huge amounts of Funds $$ during docking tasks

Our Australian Navy DDG's with twin shafts and offset rudders provided sufficient design clearance for propeller shaft withdrawal
Our Australian Navy FFG's with a single shaft and centralized rudder required rudder removal to facilitate propeller shaft withdrawal

Recently decided to start work on the various weather decks, but felt something not quite right, checked the plans, and shock horror!! they had been cut out in the wrong locations.  Now some would say, does it matter, she was never built, who will know, well I would and I have the plans so no excuse, also I think there is a flurry of interest in the class so, got be as right as could be.  Images show as is now, then the paper templates marking correct locations and size.  Blanking plates have been formed and will be fixed in, then filler applied and once all that is set and rubbed down out with the Dremel and diamond cutting disc, its all great fun really.  :} :} :}

A few shoots showing the amount that had to be altered, the real cheek gripping gap to cut was the very large one for the RAS station, looks dramatic but a lot of fairing in to do, that it for today as temp dropped a bit.

Most of the starboard, weather decks complete, so time to start on the new island.  This is all built from plasticard, for lightness, and ease of working.
Parts are only lightly tacked for the pictures, as more internals and wiring to be done yet.  The Broomstick radar dome is only at the roughing out stage, but it is a huge item, scheduled to weigh 9 tonnes,

Well impressed with those window cut-outs. I know from experience just how difficult they can be to get right - great job so far :-))
