Little more work, made the bilge keels and fitted them last night.
My method is to use 40 thou plastic card cut to shape and then drill and pin using brass pins. These give strength for mounting to the hull. Later I will use good old P38 car filler to give then there final "V" shape.


Next part of the build, will be to make the stern trim tab, sand down the hull, true up the hull edges and fill in any blemishes in the hull so I can have it ready for paint primer. Then this build will have to go on hold for a month or two.

Well Gents back from Holidays, so this week end I’ve started working on the deck.


I’ve painted the underside to seal it. The deck will not be fitted until I’ve run all the wiring and fitted out the internals.


Bilge keels have been filled using P38 and shaped.

Made and installed the battery box and the mounting for the Forge electronic distribution board , 8 way switching, and Sound unit.

Capt, as you’ve seen in my pass builds, like Stan , I too like to keep wiring neat and have good access to the internals once the decks sealed.

An update on wiring progress,

All the main power wirings is now tied in to the Forge Electronics Distribution board, the install and powering up of this was very easy. I still need a bit of tied up of the wiring already installed.

I’ve not as yet decided on what other functions will be installed, but currently I’ve also installed the Forge Electronics 8 way switching unit, this will be used to switch the following functions, Hanger Lights ( Red & Clear), Radar, Nav Lights, Bridge lights and Mast lights. The sound unit, I still have to down load helicopter, guns, and engine sounds to the card.

Still to do is all the servo wires and lighting. Once

Hi, it’s been a while, but after fixing the deck, down I found I had a major error with it. This meant I had to remove it and the frames. It did not survive, So I had to remake it, this time I used 1.5mm plastic card. This version I’ve install the gun servo and the power switch’s, these will be hidden but the vertical missiles launcher.


After I done some measure twice cut once I’ll bond the deck to the hull and then I’ll start on the either fittings or the hangers.

Its all looking great. I like the little clips you used to fix the wiring. Can you tell me what they are?. I normally use a velcro type strap but yours look to have used cable ties on a sticky back pad of some sort.

 Your correct they are a fixed by double sided sticky pad. I got them from Maplins before they closed down, but B&Q and screwfix do them as well.

I saw the track system for the helo for the Burke in 1/72 scale, but no luck in seeing it in 1/96 scale.

John (scale Warships) has only just finished the scaling down the 1/72 photo etchings to 1/96, his plan is too make all the 1/72 Arleigh Burke photo etchings at 1/96. I must say they look fantastic.

When I watched the model railway challenge they use a system on the cars that seemed to be of interest
Some ran on a magnet and then followed a path of wire underneath maybe worth investigating

I like the idea of deploying the helo from the hanger to the deck. How about a bit more of a challenge and deploy the rotors and spin them up. I will bow to the master for that!

Had some free time today, so started building the doors. These are some ready for moulding later.

Done the rotating rotors on my HMS Clyde and that was at 1/48, at 1/96 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

My Seaking and Lynx both have the rotors powered and as yet I haven't burnt the motors out (though the Seakings motor does fill the cabin being from the 1980's)
