to copy or to scan whats the difference  from a 89 year  thickey  have just been given a printer

I believe that SCAN doesn't print but produces and image of the document to view on a PC
Copy will scan the document and print it out

Usually copy refers to duplicating a document or picture that's already in the computer. The images can be imported into various applications and printed out.  A scan is the term used when a physical document is digitised using a scanner or photographed digitally to allow it to used in the computer.  It might be more useful if you could describe the job you're trying to do.

copy does a physical copy on another piece of paper, scan does a copy into your pc as an image you could for example post here.

What printer regiment some actions can be controlled from your computer. Knowing the model  someone may be able to help from the online manual if you get stuck.Better still might even have the same printer.

I recently bought an hp colour laserjet, basically you went to their website, hit go and it pretty much did it all for you wirelessly through the webpage it even was able to set it up for my tablet.

A printer prints what you tell it to print from the computer.
A scanner makes an image of the piece of paper that you have given it to read and stores it on the computer for you to use later.
A lot of present day printers are "3-in-1" devices that have a printer and a scanner in the same box.
Some of them let you scan a document and print it directly, without seeming to go through the comuter.  That is copying.

This is my Canon MG2550S.


It copies paperwork put on the glass panel, either in colour or B&W, and prints it out on paper fed from the back i.e. a photocopier.
It scans the paperwork placed on the glass and I can put the scan into a file on my computer, I also convert the scan to PDF format when I am archiving documents like pension paperwork, bills etc.
It prints anything I select for printing - including the scans previously done and MS documents etc.


Oh and it cost only £30 from argos a couple of years ago.

For all my Epson printing needs I use Epson Easy Photo Printer. This software is from Epson and used to be supplied with all their printers. Should work fine for your printer. Do not need anything else.

Colns link leads to the required software, known as drivers.  If the setup disc didn't come with it, you will need to download the drivers and install them. 
One piece of software that is important is Epson Scan, a handy utility for doing the scanning.  The Easy Photo Printer is fine if you fon't have anything else, but the printer/scanner will need the full set of drivers.  Being an Epson, they will probably need installing all in one go.
Mine is a much lowlier machine that I got purely for the scanner, I have better printers that don't cost an arm and a leg for ink when I need to use paper.
