I'm loving this nostalgia trip and the Youtube clip montage set to Acceptable in the eigthies is jolly good.
 The e.mails were thick and fast between a colleague and I yesterday when I mentioned I'd watched the BritFlick 'Starter For Ten' on a plane flight which as you can probably guess is about a bunch of Students quest for victory in University Challenge (one of the leads is played by the simply gorgeous Alice Eve but thats another story).
Anyhow we ended up mailing back and forth large passages of recited script from the best episode ever of 'TheYoungOnes'. Bambi where Bamber Gasgoine is played by Gryff Rhys-Jones. Some of you may recall Vyvyan getting decapitated by leaning out of a train window???
It was like being back at school, Brill !!!!
Basically then there's no telly now like what we grew up with, and they were right -  Kids are very impressionable with what they view on the box, I think we managed to remember most of that script between us.
T.V gold when Ben Elton was still writing great scripts including , of course, Blackadder.

Actually I Think that it was Master Mates  not Mister Mate  very close for comfort  any way it was all down to one particular episode which sparked it all off.

Now don't knock Blakes Seven, I was in 2 episodes, and as they had spent all the budget on the sets you can guess how much the rest of us got. Still I don't need to work again until Monday, and can afford to retire in 2097.

no and they're probably not allowed to because it may offend our ethnic minority cultures and people who are easiliy offended

they may ban top gear because of "driving cars is detromental to the environment", after all they've already thaught about banning fast food adverts because of its supposed link to obesity. PC lobbyists and tree huggers g'ah what next?

I seem to recall spending my entire childhood playing on rubbish tips, bomb sites, dark streets and thick woodland. No wonder most of my generation never suffered from an "allergy"....although,sadly, we did lose pals through scarlet fever. diptheria etc. Let the kids loose to play! Perhaps then we will not get the rather od "uptight" young adults we get today.

yet we sit here being wrapped up in cotton wool by a government hell bent on trying to apease the so-sue-me society! when in the 1980s did people give a b***er about political correctness, back then a black board was a blackboard, not a chalk board because calling it a black board may offend our african and arabic ethnic minorities g'ah!!!!

How come, in this politically correct world of ours, there is a National Black Police Federation, but no equivalent White organisation? Similarly, why is "Music of Black Origin" allowed, and given awards, whilst there is no similar recognition for "White" music? It seems that if you are a member of the indigenous people of this country, then you are of no consequence!

Too late.  New pencil sharpeners have to be designed to sharpen to a radius.  We still have knives, thankfully, so we can get a proper point.

  Except for MP's  now we have them trying to ban Home Lathes, the reason.....  They can be used to make guns.  this is serious people, it was reported in the Model Engineer that an MP had made it his duty to try and initiate an enquiry into the possibility of making hobbyists register their home lathes and be licensed because he had seen an article in one of the mags on building a model Gatling gun,  ( the article was for a 1/10 scale, NON-WORKING  civil war American society )  ::)

   In the 40's model engineers helped with the war effort in their home workshops, I wonder if the same
   MP has thought how easy it would be for us modelmakers to construct detonators etc. OOOOOPs.

   Yes colin h,  I forget the name of the actual machine tool maker but at the time of theIiraqi Big gun saga,
    a british CNC lathe manufacturer was being congratulated by one Govt department for exports and condemed
    by another for selling equipment to aid Iraqs weapons manufacturing capability.
