C3PO - that's the setup I shall try tomorrow. My only concern is that the nob on Tx only tells the esc to go 1 way and that it doesn't actually have a centre position as such. I have come to realise I should of put far more thought into choosing the tx in general, but I was just happy to find one with 4 self centering aux switched chanels for the winches not taking into account speed control🤦🏻‍♂️

The TX will tell the ESC to go both ways that's how the fundamentals of RC trannies work!

The output of the radio receiver channels is a pulse that ranges from 1ms to 2 ms with the midway neutral (stick/knob) point at 1.5ms.
An ESC with reverse will have no output to the motor @ 1.5ms (neutral)
The ESC will spin the motor with a speed proportionally to the pulse one way with an output between 1.0 - 1.45ms and the other way with a signal between 1.55 - 2ms  (figures are approx to paint the picture)

A blob of paint on the knob and the radio case would be enough to align neutral.

If you go with the relay switching, then setting the knob just to the left or right of center and using the switched channel via an RC relay board to allow power to the motor would work.

Okie dokie👍🏻 well I've dug out the esc that came with 1 of the winches so as soon as the battery arrives I can have a play n see if any issues. I'll post the results up as so many kind people have contributed to the post.

Cheers.
