Found the fault. The chattering servo was linked to a second servo. Removed the second servo and all ok. They must of been talking to each other. Michael
Chattering servos is never a binding problem, and very rarely anything to do with crystals. The symptom there is that nothing happens.
A servo on channel 1 (usually steering) on pre-2G4 sets is often interference being interpreted by the receiver as a valid, but varying, signal.
Servos misbehaving is often caused by dud power, or, in a large set-up, by an overload messing with the receiver voltage supply. A poorly servo might puta big enough demand on that supply to cause the voltage to drop. Since servos rely on stable voltage, they will dither in sympathy.
The servo causing this problem "might" be OK on its own, but "might" be dragging the supply voltage down.
