Friend of mine has a scratch built static model of this ship given to her dad when he left the ship in the mid 1940s.It was built by a member of the crew.Unfortunately her granchildren decided to play with the model and wrecked it.She has asked me to fix it up which I am happy to do.I am having to re mast it, replace two gun mounts and other items that have been broken or gone missing. The paintwork is a mess.
My problem is I am not sure of the paint jobI am ex Royal Navy so know the hull and superstructure are ships grey but what about the upper decks? Upper deck fittings?Gun mounts are grey but all of the gun?There are two Tripod masts are they grey or blackAny help or pics would be helpful I have a few pics but none of colour.Thanks Fred

Unlikely to be overall grey during the war. A couple of shots of her in camouflage attached.

A different camo scheme was used on my model of Ashanti in my portfolio section

I know it's a matter of personal preference but I usually find it a shame when the beautiful lines of such thoroughbred ships are broken up by ugly camouflage patterns, however historically accurate they may be.

Not surprisingly, I'm also in the 'non weathering' camp too. I like my models to be looking their best as delivered from the builder. Many vessels are in fact kept in almost pristine condition.

However, as always, each to his own. We can all please ourselves.

Thanks but the model I have was not in camouflage.  It was a grey but not sure of the deck colours.

From the images and models in Shipcraft 11 British Destroyers A-I and Tribal classes book these are some of the colour pictures of a Tribal class deck. The colour picture of the real Haida is of a Canadian built Tribal but I’m guessing they were pretty much the same.

Yes, our paints were based off Admiralty standards and would have been the same as British paints (however supply problems meant sometimes colours weren't mixed exactly correctly)

If you look at any Canadian colour photos you can see how far they strayed from the correct colour. Rusty Guts is the best version of WA colours.
