Hi All


I pickup this boat from EBAY UK, yes some do post Global International Postage !!!


Looks like it has been electric all it's life, so only dirty and a bit of TLC.


Well a fair bit !!!


Total paint strip, remove a lot of steel nails and add filler so required.


The drive line is old 2mm and the bearings are shot.


Requires a shaft realignment, so a new 4mm setup is going in.


The rudder is broken away from the shaft, so 3/16" stainless replacement for the shaft.


The plan is to add double spray rails as the boat has none.


Yes the rope on the bow is in the bin !!!!

How similar is the hull to the Waverider? Looks like the same style of construction, thick chunks of ply everywhere!

Far different from the Waverider tank, it's more the standard built.


Good plywood, not liteply !!!


Good length 34".
The forward cabin section is a bit off a poor fit, but I filler will fix that.

I think my Waverider kit predates lite ply - though when I finally build it I will probably substitute lite ply for a lot of the 1/4" stuff in the kit - especially as most of the wood in the kit is unusable after years of poor storage and the appalling manner it was packed to be posted to me.

The Princess is a nice size boat and it will look good on the water when it is finished.

Well the stripper is in !!!
Paint stripper that is !!!


The braided rope is in the bin.


Removed the drive line and started a dry setup for it.
Started on the boat stand as well.
Also removed a lot of rusty nails from the stern.

Hi All


More paint stripping, removing nails and old filler.
I a hole in the hull bottom which looks like a knot hole in the plywood.


No rot around the area, so a plywood patch on the inside and filler.

Filling and sanding today !!!


Lined up the hardware, but may change this when my order arrives.


The chine rails are a bit short at the bow, so I am adding a bit in that area.
A piece damaged a the stern replaced.


Looks like four raised garden beds to make for the boss !!!


That's not to bad, it's filling the dam things !!!
I am guessing four cubic meters of soil .

Appears the Armchair Admiral certainly had a quest for speed. ....is this not a high-speed propeller with a dog U drive Canabus?


A blue insert in the Ny-Lok nut....OK, but is this an additional locking pin thru the spanner flat?

Yes Dog drive setup with Teflon lower bearing and thrust washer.


CNC prop with nylon stainless lock nut.


I do have some 3 blade plastic ones on the way to test.


Started on making the four triangle spray rails from cedar.


Getting these to follow the bottom curve of the hull is going to be fun !!!

Are you adding triangular strakes to the Wave Rider and the Wave Princess Harry?

Only Triangle strakes to the Princess as the Waverider is a finished project.


The strakes are made and are heated and weight down on the hull.


It's going to take a few goes to get them right before gluing !!!!


Just another few days of 26C !!!


But that's English winter down under.

I am tempted to make some strakes and fit them to the Wave Rider as it may improve the handling.......and look good too!

If you rake the rudder shaft angle back about 4 Degrees will also help to keep the bow up in the turns.


As the planning angle is 4 degrees for a planning hull .


Learnt from my IC days with tunnel hulls !!!!

4 degrees is quite a precise angle Harry - I doubt my usual drilling accuracy comes that close in any case - so if I wobble in the right direction I should be OK

The strakes/spray rails are on and a coat of resin over the bottom and sides.


Out in the sun to bake, 26C may work !!!


I will just go and buy an air boat for a change .

Is it possible to have a strake fetish?

We seem to be adding them to every hull that we work on these days!

.......but they do work well on model power boats ........and they look even better!

Hi All


A Strake fetish, well if it works I am all in !!!


So I have been into primer and paint with a few problems.


The hull bottom was fine , but the sides which I did not remove all the old paint.


I paid the price and as the primer started to dry it started to lift off!!!


I removed off with a paint scrapper wet !!!


What a dam mess .


Finally back on track and another lesson learnt !!!

I'm probably wrong, again.    but isn't the sloped side on the strakes/spray rails on the wrong side? Thought the idea was to assist in not allowing sideways drift.
