home made Test tank trials
« on: January 16, 2023, 04:28:46 pm »

Home made test tank on test today, both Phoebe and Victorious performed very well no leaks and none from the tank.  Easily made from timber left over from another project.

Well, that's a nice practical solution for home testing Bob. Am I right in thinking the four sides are ratchet strapped and therefore easy to dismantle for storage?

Yes the ratchet strap is all that holds it together but very firmly.  Built out of necessity, as the lovely low landing area in Gloucester docks where you could potter and ballast has been denied to us.  Plenty of sailing areas but nothing easy to access for trials

Another one is to use an under bed plastic blanket box. Ok up to a metre. Quick, easy and clean. nemesis

I did exactly the same for my battleships using heavy duty polyethene sheet. I just made the tank about 12 inches longer and 12 inches wider than the model.

If your lawn is flat you can just hammer stakes into the lawn to support the side and end planks. Its fun taking the end stakes out and letting the water flow out - good idea to remove the model first!

Cheers

Fire Service make something similar, for immersing Acetylene cylinders or similar using ladders and plastic sheet.  triangukar and about 3-4 meters per side.
