My Magnum Opus - Probably...
« on: May 06, 2023, 05:03:18 pm »

I finally am able to present to the forum the most beastly creation I've ever made. This thing is a Seaducer 53 hull, with a CMB 28.5 thrown at it.

That's roughly 12 horsepower, at well over 20k rpm, in a 53" boat that weighs less than 20 pounds with fuel in it.

You can probably tell I'm rather proud of it by now  %)

I decided last year that seeing as I'd just got a mortgage and had got engaged, that the wisest thing I could possibly do was spend more money on a boat than I'd spent on pretty much anything before (ignoring the house, cars and future wife...)

So here we have it, the biggest parts bill I've ever gotten. Absolutely everything on this is the best you can get, though a lot of the hardware I made myself so that’ll probably be the bits that drop off first. It’s got in it:

    • CMB Evo2 28.5cc disc induction, rear exhaust engine
    • CMB M-Line silenced tuned pipe
    • Ian’s Boats custom made fuel tank
    • Kingtech Turbines fuel filter
    • Speedmaster 6” rudder, 6” offset
    • Speedmaster strut, with bushing of my own design
    • Speedmaster CNC billet trim tabs
    • Speedmaster turn fin
    • My own design T Bar / shaft clamp
    • Pipe mount wot I made on the mill
    • Savox SB-2295SG servo on throttle
    • Savox SB-2290SG on rudder
    • Futaba 7008SB rx, with 16IZ tx
    • Gensace 2600mah 2s2p rx battery
    • MRW57 failsafe / radio killswitch in a casing I printed
    • Shiny titanium lid fittings that may have come off a BSB bike. Don’t tell them

With any luck, I’ll be able to start running it in tomorrow morning, which will of course be recorded. It’ll also be on display at Mayhem at Wicksteed

Well the weather this morning was kind, so I managed to get a couple of litres of fuel through it. After a good drive round I've concluded it's going to be absolutely terrifying  %)

Our resident cameraman was on hand and has put together a film of it. At no point in the footage did it get beyond half throttle, it's got a prop a couple of sizes down from what I'll end up using and the pipe is way out long. It's already going quicker than most offshore boats...

Enjoy

There's a lot of satisfaction to be gotten from building something from top-notch parts and as usual you have made a first class job of it.

Is there a bigger lake you can use so that you can stretch it's legs? It looks to handle well.

That is one incredible boat - the carb intake looks like it could suck a cat inside it and still keep going  {-)

Thanks gents :-))

I do plan on running it at the lunch break of the next OffshoreMBE race at Bristol, it’s a huge lake that will let me open it up fully. By that time I’ll have it run in and sorted out properly. For now, Stevenage will do just fine
