Help Needed
« on: January 11, 2024, 04:46:39 pm »

I have been asked if I can identify this model, I remember seeing on in the past, but that's about it. I know it is dated around the late 30's. powered by a twin cylinder steam plant with a paraffin blow lamp, I can't find any details in my archives so with luck you may be able to help.

Its an early torpedo boat destroyer from circa 1904. Nice to see a steam powered model of such. The model does seem familiar but sorry I can't provide any further info.

Cheers

To add, what is intersting are the two funnels. There is a blog on here about a guy who acquired a large 7ft version with similar funnels

Hi Phil, thats a nice model. It could be an A Class Destroyer also known as a 27 Knotter from the 1893-4 building programme. Several had three funnels, Spitfire built in 1898 by Armstrongs, Sunfish by Hawthorn Leslie, Surly by J&G Thomson, Conflict by J S White. Or it could be the later Albatross built by Thornycroft.
Also the later turbine powered boat Viper had three funnels as did Velox. Heres a photo of Velox at full speed.

George,

Yes, that's the one with twin sun engines. I have my own version Velox which is powered by a Cheddar Models mk2 boiler and my own designed in line twin oscillating engine.

Thanks
