A bit more progress on the detail work, here we have the superstructure varnished and glazed and fitted=to the hull. Also, the two cranes finished and loosely fitted.

Next jobs: rub down and paint the main deck, make lifeboats, varnish hull and stability trials!

Thanks for the comments fellas.

The cranes are scratch - made up as I went along. Not too much detail on them though 'cos of the scale.

Well, its finished! :-))

Or at least, the construction is, I still need to get it back in the test tank for ballasting trials.

However, having just completed and fitted the lifeboats (carved from a peice of cedar) its now ready for the local Easter show.

Pics of the show will appear in due course.

First sea trials today!

I didnt do any submerging trials today as I havent got the stability properly sorted out yet, but running on open water seems to have been a success.

Surprisingly, that prop seems to be just about right. When starting up, quite a bit of prop wash until the boat gathers momentum and reduces as speed increases.

At full speed the model is over scale speed, but thats ok, better to have too much than not enough ok2

I was concerned that the prop size might be a problem, its got the biggest I could fit, 38mm 5 blade from Gsitek, but I was lucky!

Blue Marlin had her first open water submergence yesterday. The weather was a bit windy, raising what were large scale waves which made the operation a little difficult.

Conclusion is that submergence can only safely be done in flat calm conditions.

I have some pics, but they were taken at hi res and when compressed to a size for posting become unviewable. i will take some more at a later attempt.
