Hi all - another one from NZ.

BTW, you Aussies do realise you are the West Island right..?

I'm in South Auckland, very close to the Wattle Downs ponds where the I.C. and yacht guys run/sail.

Touche Alister. What is the Model Boat scene like in NZ. Model shops, clubs and lakes?

Your newsagent would be able to get the bismarck for you as all there mags are delivered by Gordon and Gotch, who also sned out the Bismarck kit.........

This is a truye story.

I was studying in Shanghai University and one of the other students is from your part of the globe. Having upset two NZlanders in the past by asking 'What part of Australia are you from?', I thought I would play safe.

So I ask, 'What part of the Antipodes are you from?'
To which comes back the answer, 'I'm not'.

Now I am confused, until he follows up with 'I'm an Australian'.

Say no more.

Roy, a couple of guys in our club did some investigating with a local newsagent as to why he is not stocking the " Bismarck Build Magazine"

His response  - In order to build the kit successfully, a customer would have to purchase all mags at the full price (not as per introductory offer) in order to complete kit. The newsagent was told by the distributors that the total investment to build would amount to $2000 plus. The newsagent did not believe that his customers would spend that sort of money over a two year period - hence does not stock copies.
Personally, I agree. I would prefer to spend that sort of money on a good kit instead O0

Would those be the ponds around the Wattle Farm Road area Alister ?

Kit - Yes - those are the ones.

I was there yesterday afternoon with my son to run my boats and caught the end of the yachts having a sail.

Sorry David - I couldn't help myself :)

I'm not very familiar with the local club scene I have to say. I did investigate some years ago - like 5 or 6 - but then got so busy with work that I never joined it. Since then we've had kids too, so not much time there. Once upon a time in my teens I was in the Taranaki Model Marine Club, but left that when I went to Uni.

As for model shops, there are plenty around, but boat supplies are mostly kits, not many loose parts. Props are a problems as I have just discovered and I'm not sure about lite ply supplies - although I've not had to look for that as yet. There is an almost specialist boat supplier on our North shore, but they are mostly IC stuff.

Lakes, well, I can see the yacht sails and the rooster tails from the IC guys, but there is no scale club using that. They have a lake further into Auckland city, but - and I hope that if any of the members of that club is on these forums that they do not get offended - I didn't think much of the lake. It was small by any standards. I'm not sure my PT boat would be terribly suitable!

David,

it's the Dumas PT-109 #1233. It's the wooden hull not the bigger GRP version. Probably very similar in size to yours. It's ended up at about 3.2Kg with everything on board and thats a little too heavy for the RS540S and 9.6v pack its running to get up and plane properly. It's taken me a few years of intermittent building to get it finished. I like to stop and procrastinate about the difficult bits but it's been a relief to finally get it going. It is what I describe as a "3 foot model" - 3 feet being the distance away from it you need to be to miss the mistakes!

There is a big tournament here in darwin coming up soon. Come over and you can catch it yourself, better done the frozen ones you get over in the UK

I love that idea, would love to visit Aus, maybe when I retire so that I could spend some time there.

As to the bara we have a company based `would you believe` in the New Forest that is breeding them. So we get them the day after harvest.
