has anyone on here had any trouble ordering ply wood from their local model shop?
-
Once again....no location. How can we help if we don't know where you are?
My local model shop keeps all the sizes you'd need, and my local DIY shop keeps a supply of 1.5mm birch ply. So no problems up in Geordieland. BY.
-
My local timber factory makes the stuff :)
-
Have always ordered it online to be honest as my local model shop does not stock it. However at the weekend I was in Trinders toy and model shop in Banbury and asked if they could get it and the very nice man took me to a distant dark corner of the shop and showed me a large selection they already carried in stock. Been in there many times and never seen it. Shows it pays to ask! (or get new glasses maybe) :-)

well it is in the Glasgow area >>:-(

John at uddingston can normaly order in anything you need pretty quick :-))

it was paisley that I ordered the wood from and that was over a month ago and still waiting so I have just ordered a sheet of ply from a local timber merchants instead.

By 'ordered', do you mean paid for and waiting for it to arrive, or just informed them of your interest to purchase?
Also, what reason have they given for the no-show?

Paisley has went down hill so much since the new guy took over
he tried so sell me marine ply which was clearly marked Lite ply and lookedand felt more like balsa
that was over a year ago have not went back
but I could be biased since I have known John at uddingston since {:-{ {:-{ {:-{

RE: D & F models in Bell St. Sadly shop closed on May 26th 2012 when the owners dave and irene retired after 25 years.
Of course captain colin would`nt know that as the shop did`nt stock his sort of goodies @ 70% train stuff with some diecast
plastic kits and dolls houses though they had some plastic card, ply & balsa strip. The new proprietor has only been up and
running for @ 3months and is still building up his stock so there is not a great deal to see at the moment. He does though have a
DUWK sat on the counter and a model of a cruiser with an HMS hat with tally which says HMS Glasgow. Whether these are for
sale or are for advertising ??????????????.
Apart from jamiesons plastic kit shop there is p1ss all here in Glasgow for RC hobby its all on the PC now chaps.
Frank.

Frank, Glasgow centre is barely 20 mins from the Uddingston store, and a bit further to Paisley. It's not quite that bad.

Yes Essex, Finland makes a lot of good ply(also hockey sticks)just like here in Canada. You can buy ply here so cheap & the very best Quality, thats what you get when you have endless forests, or at least what looks that way. Mick B.
-
Funilly enough tho, to buy plywood from a model shop here is actually more expensive than to buy it from the UK and ship it to Finland O0
But... If you happen to know the owner of the local timber works (and fixed his laptop for free lol) then its quite easy to get seconds (Flawed 8x4 panels) for beer money
-
got a phone call to say that the wood has been sent via parcel force I will believe that when I see the wood and was also told that someone was going into hospital for a small op, wht has that got to do with getting some plywood?
-
Try "The Balsa Cabin"
They do a large selection of ply
