Hi my name is stuart and I live in taunton somerset . I am not new to rc scene I have owened 5 different 1/6th scale tanks / armoured cars and 1/16th stuff as well . I am now heavily into 1/14th scale trucks as I am a hgv driver hence the forum name and have just built my first scania v8 r620 and this had its first outing at the club meet at yate last sunday I met ken for the 1st time at this showing :-)) . he has turned me to the dark side of boats {-) .. I have allways loved boats after spending 6 years on a trawler . the model of choice for me is motor torpedo boats and rescue launches I am currently searching for my first one any offers please :-)) . really happy to be here and looking forward to meeting and chatting with you guys ok2

Hi Stuart welcome to the forum
Like you I am new to model boat building in fact a complete beginner to any type of model building.
I have just started my first model boat kit Mantua 1/35 Police Boat which seems to be a very good kit for a complete beginner
like yourself I am thinking of building an RC rescue launch but not sure whether to buy a kit or just a plan and start from scratch
I will be interested to see what ideas and suggestions you receive from forum members
regards Ian

Hi Ian how are you doing mate ? thank you for the warm welcome :-))
I have not heard of the kit you are building I will do a search for it mate . I am a little nervous about building one having no experience or idea where to start . I do have a club in Taunton I met the guys couple of weeks back at the canal and they are a great bunch I guess I could pick there brains regards a build . I was looking for a ready built or ready to run type of boat to start but if the kit you have started is newbie friendly I may well give it a go mate . like yourself im looking forward to getting some ideas and feedback from the folks on here there skills at building and knowledge of all thing rc boats is huge I have been trawling through the threads and im blown away :-)) . cheers stu

Hi Stuart the kit I mentioned is only a 400mm display model the reason I bought it was to get an idea of very basic boat building
Ian :-)
-
sounds like good practice kit there mate the things that worry me with building one is getting the shafts and rudders etc lined up and correct im ok with the electric side :-)) and guessing most kits are laser cut and are like Tamiya plastic kit regards the fitment of parts?
-
This is a real beginners kit I think if you are experienced in model building it would be too basic for you
I intend to build a larger model next, one that is capable of taking an rc instalation.
I am hoping that the forum members will help me in my choice.

Hiya again Stu.
A mighty welcome to Mayhem and believe me, it can be. {-) {-) We have a terrific warships section and ,as I mentioned, even I am having a go on a Fairmile D. I'll dig out the reference to my partial build here on site for you to see how I progressed and what I went through
The trouble is, all my stuff if on a larger scale and I'm running out of space. I have a new kit on the stocks and it's a bit smaller so I shall have a go at that, now that my truck is finished.
Let us know any questions or queries you might have, as the members on here are a mine of information and have helped me loads.
Cheers for now

We are discussing Sea sickness at the moment. Not a thing that concerns truckers eh !! I'm leaving the Fairmile build for a while and going to have a go on the Talachre drifter boat when I can get off from here.

ha ha I thought I was over the seasickness after spending 6 years on a trawler but no I wasn't I went on a dive trip in Plymouth and on a small motor boat went out to the james egan lane and guess what I spent the whole trip spewing up over the side {-) .
I think you should donate the fairmile to me ken when its all finished {-) its stunning mate :-))
-
Aw shucks. I went off it a bit. Might restart after the next boat.

You will not need any fishing nets for her Ken.
She is not a drifter but a single hatch coaster and Welsh to boot :-))
Looking forward to the photos.
